specific turbo timer and remote start questions
specific turbo timer and remote start questions
I am looking for something simple (nothing fancy) but specific:
I want it to have a turbo timer that works off egt's (not time)
I want it to have a remote start
Don't need an alarm, but i guess it wouldnt hurt
thats it! I dont need any lock stuff because i have manual everything! Oh, and it has to work with a manual trans (I am not worried about leaving it in gear. I'm too careful about that kind of stuff!)
Anybody got any advice on a timer/remote start like this? thanks a bunch, -Evan

I used a BD cool down timer on my truck. I got it from Geno's. Works off of EGT and it works well when it works. I can't say that I could recommend them. I went through 5 before I gave up, although many other people have had zero issues with them. I will say BD's customer service is top notch. Relatively cheap, around $100.
After that I installed a Brite Box cooldown timer, which works really well. But I must set the timer each time for shutdown. You can set it for 1-5 minutes in 1 minute intervals. I have no problem with doing that as it is as simple pushing button on the dash for the number times for the number of minutes that I want the timer to run for. It has worked flawlessly since day one.
I looked into remote starts as well. No sure of all the details, but in essence most can do a turbo cooldown as sort of a side feature that allows the engine to run for a bit after the key is removed. The details about this I am fuzzy on, but I believe the timer will be the same each shutdown. Not as easily tunable.
The cost of the Brite Box and the remote start unit that I was looking at were both about the same. A little over $200, but after the BD cooldown timer problems I had I opted for high reliability over high features.
