speakers / system

I bought some 12" speakers and an amp today and was wondering if anyone has plans for a box to go under the back seat or if I have to wing it. Also should I hook my hot wire (FUSED) straight to the battery terminal or on the power realy box that has all the fuses under the dash? Where is a good ground for the amp if I mount it under the drivers seat. Any inputs appreciated guys.

Never done it in a ram, but run the power straight to the battery, either find an existing bolt, or drill a hole in the floor, bolt the ground down that way.

theres quite a few prefab boxes out there for under the rear seat, however, I dont believe theres any for 12's

http://www.subbox.net/DodgeRamQuadCa...reSubwooferBox(2002-2004).html
http://www.subthump.com/adodgetruck.htm

also check ebay.

You could also PM BigBlue for the designs on his dual 12" underseat box

One thing to consider, you box has alot to do w/ how your sub(s) will sound. Every different type of sub sounds best in a box designed specifically for it.

As for the power wire, you can do either. And on my 00' I think I remember their was a ground strap under the carpet beneath the driver.

You will want the power wire hooked straight to the battery, and nowhere's else. The power distribution box does not have near the capacity to handle an amp. As mentioned, ground as close to the amp as possible.

For the box dimentions, you can go with the box BigBlue has, however, for his box you have to raise the back seat by 2 inches. I have to haul people in the back every now and then, and it is tight without raising the back seat.

I have 2 12w3 JL audios and am fixing to build this box. I got the plans from "hellotbone" via PM. He did tell me, however, that he had post them somewhere on the site, so you can try to seach for them. I am pasting his PM to me below. I plan on trying this box this weekend, so I will try to let you know how it goes.

Now for hellotbone's PM:

OK I don't know how to post them really, I can draw it out in cad but I don't know how to convert to a JPG to upload it so I can try to just post the dimensions.

OK its a Wedge style box. So the Front if the widest part and the rear tapers to fit under the seat. This box Accommodates (2) JL12W3's but not V2's they are taller and this is the max that will fit under the rear seats with no mods.

The front is 10 3/4" high and the rear is 6" high. Now you have to also add a block at the front or extend the bottom edge of the box (this is how I did it) so the OA front is 12" high. Now the rear needs to be raised as well to allow the subs room to breathe as well. So the OA for the back of the box has to be 7 1/2". The width from outside to outside is 51".

I can't describe the under dimensions which is where the subs sit this is just the dimensions of the box. If anyone know's how to convert a dxf file to jpg then I can proceed to draw it out in cad and send it to them.

Thanks guys for the inputs....i did some searching on the net and found the volume req'ts for my speakers....i think i can wing this one pretty easy.....i like BigBlues box but i dont want the speakers strait up and down because it causes the seat to sit up higher.....i think i am going to tilt the speakers at a 45 degree angle...thinking of building a wedge box for them......I just dont know if i should port the box or leave it sealed.

I don't care much for the way a ported box sounds. Having my back seat lifted is a PIA, but I can still fit two short people back there. I've got 2 Audiobahn 700w RMS 12's in it and they slam HARD. My friends can hear me from almost 2 blocks away. The box was pretty easy to build and while it's not the best box in the world, I like it. It doesn't leak and it has the volume of air I need for my subs. Well, for the old ones. I need to add some polyfill in for the new ones.

At least you guys have a back seat, I am still trying to figure out how I am gonna fit an Image Dynamics IDMAX 12 in my truck, the sub performs best in a sealed box, so thats good, but Still, I need to find a place to put 1.5 cu. ft. of box for the sub.

diesel kid, if its just one IDMAX, you should have plenty of room for a 1.5^3 under your rear bench. make the entire underbench area (or maybe a lil less) the box, basically just a wedge

I think I am going to put it under the center, but I am not sure if it will be deep enough, Either that or behind the center section, mabye making a taller skinny box. I dont know, just shootin around ideas.

If I ever get the time i wana see if I can take the back seat all the way out and build a custom box that you sit on. never seen anyone do that before. build a box and put a foam/leather covering over it, then you just sit on the box. This would be more for like 15" tho. Man i got 2 kicker 15 solo barics in my 95 sonoma with a sealed box, man those hit!! fun for scarin all the rice rockets, its a fun little red neck truck, camper shell, white walls out, light blue, front leather bra on hood, and 6'4 driver. only thing better to drive is the dodge.
