Clutch felt and worked good until it got seated, then it got pretty rough. I don't know if I'll be able to stand it this summer when trying to get the camper in and out of tight situations.

You'll get used to it.

I thought the same thing after I installed mine. You get used to it after a short time, it just takes a little different driving style.

The only time it gets a little tought to bear is in stop and go traffic, you won't like the clutch and the clutch won't like you. I've gotten used to using 1st gear a lot more than I used to.

Yeah, the chatter can get to you but you get used to it. Use 1st gear every time it will save the life of your clutch dramatically. I have been using an OFE for about a year now and have only slipped it once drag racing so if you ever do that make sure you give it a good rest/cooling period between runs. I slipped mine in 4th gear on a back to back run with about 440hp but it still holds like a dream cruising down the road. The SBC clutches are the best out there IMHO. Reverse probably gives you the worst chatter especially with a trailer but again, you'll get used to it and adjust your driving style.

I thought this clutch was rated to hold 450hp? That does not sound too reasuring.

For reasurance i have ran a con ofe for three years some sled pulling a few drunk dares ( hooking trucks back to back) and drag racing. I have had it slip from sled pulling smelled like burnt interior in my truck for weeks. I still tow with it regularly and have had no problems with 450hp and 1024ftlbs of tq. This is a good clutch in my opinion.

Any clutch will slip if you get it too hot and abuse it enough no matter what the HP rating is. I have friends that have toasted double disks in sled pulling doing pull after pull, basically trying to hurt the clutch and so they did.

Southbend recommends to run a tank of fuel or two, around town shifting to let it set in, before pulling heavy loads or yanking it around. I have a con ofe and using it to set/back the rv and my other trailers, I have had no problems so far. Goodluck,,Rick

If your clutch hops, give it a little more fuel. The skinny pedal is the solution for a hopping clutch.

I always start in 1st, so any hopping issues for me are mostly nil.

I don't have a bad thing to say about a SB clutch. I'm running about 450 hp through a 350 hp clutch right now and it holds as long as I don't get stupid with it. Got to upgrade in the future though. Didn't expect to end up with the hp I got when we put the clutch in. There will definately be another SB going in the next time too.
