Some new thoughts on a turbo, what do you all think?

So some of you might remember the issue I had last year when I bought the 62/13,( Search Thread: Htt 62/71/13 installed!! ) well when I had the ex.man off I checked the wheel on the compressor and I have in and out play in the shaft. I called HTT and Anthony told me to send it in and they would look it over under warranty . He also asked me why I went with this particular turbo and I told him it was suggested by them. He acted like maybe it was the wrong application for me?? Anyhow I guess I am back to the same question as always, I have been seeing a considerable amount of heat while towing (1500 easy ) I tow between 8,000m - 12,000lbs so this is somewhat of a concern. What I am wondering is should I go to a 64/12 or 64/13 or 64/14 to help with the heat. I believe I have the fuel to light this but I would like your guys opinion and experiences. Or maybe I should go smaller or just stay with the same one and get a bigger I/C and spray it with water. Any ideas will be great.

p.s although I would love to have them, twins are not a option

i wouldnt go bigger for towing. do u have a comp for timing? i didnt see one in your sig. bigger turbos will cool better with high hp and wot but not when you are trying to maintain highway speeds you might want to go a little smaller, 12k is alot to keep moving.

no I currently do not have any programmer anymore, but I plan on going back to a smarty and probably a TST stack this spring. I know that all trucks are different in different applications but there is alot of guys running this same turbo and towing.........even at my elevation.

The timeing will help towing temps a bit , and you know about higher RPM will run cooler . ON these turbos we run [62 14 ] 62 13 ] the 65 ex wheel might help some . I am going to try a .55 ex houesing [your 13 ss is a .75 ] whit a 65 ex wheel and a 1.5 inch internal wastgate to see how it work s , with the same 62 comp wheel . that should be a good towing setup [ to small for big power]to try on low HP setings. To much fuel and i know drive pressure will get high.
