So I slid my afc forward

A few dumb questions. I slid my afc full forward. I also turned my star wheel inward 4-5 clicks. I left the stock fuel plate in the original position.

any idea of the power increase that would give me?
is this a dumb idea?

I dont want to install the #10 plate until my exhaust shows up later this week. It seems that I have a little more pop out of the hole which is exactly waht I want considering my 240k mile auto tranny

thanks

You've just taken the first steps towards BOMBing - congratulations. Now watch out, it is addictive.

What you have done by sliding the AFC forward is to allow fueling to start earlier. There is a slide stop that moves forward when boost is built that then allows for more fuel. At low boost with too much fuel you will get more smoke (wasted fuel). What you haven't done (yet) is to add "more" fuel, you've just let the same amount start earlier. That is why you notice a little more "pop out of the hole" as you say. Now when you add the #10 it will change the total amount of fuel you add as well as when you add it. The 'star-wheel' just fine tunes the boost/fuel control to eliminate/add smoke but not power. Hope this makes sense.

I hope you have guages as well or should wait on the #10 until you get those in. The exhaust will help with temps too. Read up on changing the governor springs (GSK) and changing the timing. A plate, GSK and timing and you won't recognize your truck. You'll also be saving for a new/rebuilt tranny.

Paul said it well, you don't really have any more power, you are just getting it sooner.

And I seccond the importance of gauges, as well as the GSK and timing advance.

I third the importance,

and well agree with Nick on this one, although i do think that the AFC full forward does give a few more horses, but nothing too significant..

What are doing typing on the computer! You should be out working on the truck.

Sounds like you've got a good start and are being wise about it too. If you get time, fill in the signature blank under the "User CP" so we can see what year truck and any mods you have. Good luck with the installs and start saving for a TC and valve body - you'll want/need one.

Lewis,
When you get the piping for the twins, bring it by before you install it so i can copy them.

I second that! I'd sure like to get a tape on those parts just to have so that when I do get twins I can fab up my own piping.

I'd love to see dyno sheets on the same truck, just with AFC foreward and back.

I can see how it would give a few more horses, because it allows the turbo to spool quicker, but would love to see exactly what it does to the curve, and if i really does change the peak.
