So does a comp on 0x0 behave like an EZ or like there is no box at all?

So does a comp on 0x0 behave like an EZ or like there is no box at all?

I notice that in the winter, with my Edge EZ stacked with my TST PM3, that I get bad mid to near-full fuelpedal ('throttle' for those of you who insist on using that word even though our diesels don’t have a throttle ) shudder and missing when the rate of engine RPM rise is small, aka when in 6th gear or when towing. This only happens in the cooler weather, and gets worse as it gets cooler. When I unplug the EZ the problem goes away completely, and when its warm out, the problem is gone as well. I am not sure at this time whether the problem is a result of the more viscous fuel at lower temps, or the cool temperature of the intake air is causing the computer to use more advance (this is what I leaning toward right now). But I do know that the problem is non-existent with the EZ removed, and the TST adjustments have no impact on it at all. So I really suspect it is timing related.

So my question is (finally), if I get an Edge Comp, when its set at 0x0 is that totally off, as in like no box attached at all, or is it still in 'EZ' mode ???

I get the same shudder/stutter when I have my EZ on during the cold weather. I just turn it off and it goes away.

For those of you who are thinking "EZ's don't have on/off switches". I just installed a switch in the datalink wires and turn it on and off whenever I want. I run mostly on the injectors and when I need an extra kick in the pants to pass or whatever, lift the throttle for a second, flip the switch, pedal down and away we go.

Best I can figure, the shudder is temp related. It's not as bad after I clean my IAT but it is till there. I'm going to replace my IAT and see if it makes a differnce.

As said 1x1 is the lowest setting however off is off except your boost fooler still works. My personal feeling is that once you tap the wire level 2/ sub level 5 feels like the ez and 3 and up is more. If you do go for the comp make sure you get the "Hot" (drag) version as I hated the 2700rpm defueling the reg comp does. I run all my levels with the sub levels at 1 except my "kill" at 5x5 to control smoke and traction. I havent noticed the problems you speak of but it may be due to my engine is a SO not the HO.

Very good information here guys. Thank you very much.

Homestead, I was thinking about trying a switch, but I was not sure if it would work... Since you are disconnecting and reconnecting the EZ from the datalink I was worried the ECM would need a 'reboot' (on/off/on keyswitch cycle) to recognize it, but since it works for you, then it does not need this. That is very nice to know... I also was thinking about trying to install a three position switch with leads soldered to the pins of the jumper settings. That way you have level 1,2 and 3 at the flip of a switch instead of moving jumpers.

I still am leaning to selling my EZ and my TST and just getting a drag comp and then a MAD

I have experienced the shudder problem several time with my EZ / HO. I have not noticed it to be temperature related. The only "fix" I have found is to turn the engine off, wait a few seconds, then restart it. Once this procedure didn't work the first time, but did on my second attempt. I wish I knew how to fix it properly.

Talking

'throttle' for those of you who insist on using that word even though our diesels don’t have a throttle
"Throt-tle: To suppress ;; To decrease the flow of (as steam or fuel to an engine) by a valve ;; To regulate and to reduce the speed of (as an engine) by such means. "

-Webster

Sounds like they have a throttle to me KP , I think you mean they don't have a butterfly valve. But they do have a "valve" to control fuel flow and restrict it from full flow at will. I'm just jivin ya this just goes to show I have too much time on my hands.
