How would the behave if I....

Drove around without the steering stabilizer hooked up. Reason I ask is I just replaced some tie rods along with the brakes and damaged the stabilizer in the process. I just took it around the block, without the stabilizer, and it has a very bad shake around 35-40 MPH. Would this cause that to happen. Also I noticed lots of play in the track bar where it attaches to the frame.

Thanks
John

It has alsways been my opinion that you should never "need" a steering stabilizer. If you put one on to get rid of a shimmy, you are just masking a problem, eventually the stabilizer will go out, because it has to work so hard and your shake will be back. It sounds as though you may need and alignment.

That's about all I know about them is that they can be a "band-aid" for more serious problems, as far as Need one?

On lifted trucks with oversized tires they can help with "bump steer" I had a dual set up on my last truck with a 6" lift and 35's.

I would get it checked at an alignment shop, and get a new stabilizer on.

Your 95 NEEDS a good stabilizer. Do a search on "death wobble" and you will find you just made your do it. Also if you have excessive movement in the track bar replace it.

You could get by without a stabilizer if your front end is tight, perfectly aligned and the tires perfectly balanced until you hit a bad bump.
Then it's likely the steering wheel would wrenched right out of your hands.
