Snowplows

Anyone out there pushing a snowplow with their diesel rig?

I'm looking at the new Meyer, Western, and Boss snowplows. Re:Snowplows

When I used to plow I had a short box ext cab 4x4 CTD automatic. I used an 8'6" Arctic poly blade and loved it worked better then the westerns others were using the also had downpressure for backblading areas, we did the school parking lots. I can tell you I could push more then most but it was mostly due to the CTD up front holding the wheels tight to the ground with all that heavy cast iron! ;D

Re:Snowplows

Dunno if Diamond is still around I plowed comercially for five years in the snow belt with same truck and plow never had any plow issues. But I have seen an ad for a plow lately that turns upside down to backblade. Was a neat concept. Most of the guys I deal with now have V plows and love them. They are a bit more money though.

Paul
'03 2500 HO/6spd quad sb

Re:Snowplows

Spots turns upside down really man I would love to see that it would be neat. I used to have a western, I had one of those plows I can't even remember the name it was clear so you didn't need to have the lights ya right can't see anything at night. Anyways it was an Ok plow but my arctic I still have now is leaps and bounds ahead in the heavy duty dept, I just keep it around my driveway now and it still works great I have never replaced anything on the arctic, the western I did blow a few hoses. I will admit the v plows are cool and work when they work but there are more moving parts making them more prone to breaking? I don't know I would love the change to plow with one for a night and try it out I bet for parking lots it would be awesome no windrows or anything.

Re:Snowplows

I went with the Blizzard 810 Power Plow. This is 8 foot wide but has a 1 foot section on each end that will push out to make it 10 foot total width. Then those 'Wings' can move in to a 30 degree angle. Makes it a little like a V-Plow but not totally. Great for doing next to house or curbs. They move seperately so you can just have 1 side out and not the other. They didn't have a Back Drag section though but haven't had problems back dragging my yard. I don't know about a parking lot though. Probably eat away at the blade after awhile. My picture didn't have the wings turned out. Heres a couple of sites to check out.

http://www.blizzardplows.com/main.html

http://www.arcticsnowplows.com/index.htm

http://www.bossplow.com/

http://www.norweb.se/sidewing/index.html (A side wing... Re:Snowplows

New to the CTD and snow plow world but lovin both.
Went with the straight Hiniker 8'. Haven't had much snow to move but seems to work good. Like above says not sure what it would do for commercial. Do like the easy in and out. Hooked it up in under two minutes the other night (great when it's -20 out). I've known the dealer here for several years and trust him. He said don't go anything less than 8' or you'll end up with too much snow under the front tires. Only about $50 difference from 7 1/2' and 8'. Total package about $3,000. If doing only residential the straight blade would probably be enough. Good luck.

Paul

Re:Snowplows

Might consider Sno-Way also. They're the ones with the clear Lexan moldboards. They have a down-pressure system that's really nice for back dragging.
Also for lots of good info check www.plowsite.com. Mostly commercial guys over there so they know what works and what doesn't.
Roy

Re:Snowplows

That was it mine was a snow way plow and it sucks when the snow gets sticky it sticks to the plow and your lights don't shine through it making it impossible to see at night or if its wet out the guy infront of you covers the blade in crap and you can't see!
