smarty tuner

hey boys, i got an 02 2500 CTD 4x4 with a k/n and mbrp 4" turbo back. 'im wanting to put on the air dog 100, smarty tuner, boost fooler, and put in a new torque converter and valve body. What would be the expected horsepower/torque gains? will my gas milage improve?

thanks, matt

I can say for 100% certainty that your gas mileage will NOT improve with these mods.

Boost fooler is not needed with a Smarty. Smarty adds about 65 HP under the curve and about 40 HP Peak with no other power mods.

I get a 1-2 MPG FUEL economy gain just using a Smarty S-06 on SW 3, WHEN I keep my foot out of it.

On my 2000 I got maybe .5 mpg improvement with my Edge Comp without tapping the pump wire (equivalent to an EZ). My biggest mileage gains came from going to taller tires (about 2 mpg), then a close second was maybe the Mach 1 injectors (1 to 1.5 mpg).

I was surprised with the Comp--I figured the additional timing advance it provided would help more than it did.

what is your goal? 500hp? 25mpg? daily driver? 25k towing? drag racer? puller? there are some members in all of those areas, but you won't be able to get all of them at the same time! maybe list your top three goals for better direction.
that said, i gained mpg with my Comp (before) and EZ (now), but the best software mpg gain was the Smarty on level 1 (lots o' timing) with no other box. Software 0 (half power) with the EZ is a close second. I lost mpg with the lift and 37s. I lost some mpg with F1 Mach3 injectors and the B1-2 turbo, but that is because I like to keep my right foot on the loud pedal! I can get 17-18mpg now on ther hwy, 15-16 around town driving VERY LIGHTLY.
The Smarty does the electronic portion of the boost fooling, but you'll need a turnbuckle or j-hook on the wastegate to mechanically allow more boost.

im only wanting 400 hp maybe a little more. what i want is good mpg and some black smoke-but i dont want it to smoke all the time. i got 285/75 on...it would 315/75 tires and an edge EZ be a good way to go with the AD 100 and trans. upgrades?

Smarty and an EZ would work well. The timing from the Smarty will allow for good mpg. I would suggest a fueling box that can be adjusted from the cab on-the-fly for ease of use. I ran an Edge Comp and it worked well, I am sure the TST PM3, Adrenaline or Blue Chip FMS would, too. I leave the EZ unplugged because there is no 'off' position and my larger injectors and turbo create a good amount of surge in the cruise control on the freeway. I can give you first hand knowledge that it sucks to have the truck in mpg mode when the little ricer or Chevy or Ford comes in to view!

Most any of the performance enhancing boxes are considered fueling boxes. Some add timing, some don't. The Smarty is a programmer, you select the parameters you want and download the program into the truck's computer. The boxes connect to the wiring harness under the hood and intercept the signals from different sensors and manipulate the information going to the computer. My personal choice is to use the Smarty for timing (and best mpg, as well as trouble code reading/clearing and correction for the odometer if you use non-stock tire sizes) and a fueling box (no timing) for top end power.
