Smarty. Major news!

All,

I've just finished to upload new updates for Smarty on our web site.
The R&D to improve our product(s) is never ending ; we came up with these news.
Be it clear, you don't need to update your Smarty, there's nothing wrong with it... but I highly recommend it!

The news are:

1) INCREASED ECM update speed! A typical ECM update takes now only 1 minute and 30 seconds. Faster than that....

2) The " surge / dead spot " fix is now comprised in all software versions.***

3) The USB and USBL software(s) provide a much faster PC to Smarty update speed. The time needed to update Smarty is less than half of what it was before. If you had them already downloaded please get this new ones!

For more details : http://www.madselectronics.com/download.html

Thanks,

Marco

*** A few customers with 01-01.5-02 trucks had reported a " surge " or
"dead spot " arround half throttle (or 1700-1800 RPM) .
Should you experience something similar, the fix is now available in all software versions. Get the one you like best.

Marcos,

That is great news.

Do you have a list of "How to" upgrade the Smarty? I'm fairly good at running computers, but I find if I have a "step by step" instruction manual I can avoid alot of problems.

I read the "Driver Install" PDF but, it does not give "details for dummies".

Also, what cable do you need to update it? I know the one that fits the diagnostic port won't work. Will a serial fit the smarty...I'm guessing that is correct and a USB to Serial port will work. Maybe I haven't looked at it closely enough and I'm missing something.

any generic usb cable will work. once the driver is installed its a breeze.

you will have a smarty icon on your desk top. have your smarty plugged into your computer via usb cable.

click on the smarty icon. go to file, find the smte file that you want to update to smarty.

Then click send.

DO NOT FREAK OUT WHEN YOU SEE THE ERASING MEMORY MESSAGE

If you need any further help. you know where to find me

A regular USB cable will do it. If you have a USB printer or scanner, or something like that. It will have one flat plug and one square plug. The square one will work with the Smarty

Does that help?

I'm new to the Cummins arena.

So is the Smarty, a programmer like the Bully Dog, Edge, etc. Or do you use the Smarty in conjunction with others?

I'm trying to figure out what the best programmer for the $ is.

thanks.

It's a programmer with settings so you can stack it with timing boxes. Do a search, they get awesome reviews from everyone that uses them. Removes all defuling, all torque management, boost fooling... Only downside for you is they are not out for the CR engines yet, but Marco is working on that.

Okay, I'll try this again. I asked for step by step instructions and got no where. So I'll try the only way I know how to get things done. Yell.

HOW DO YOU DOWN LOAD THE DRIVER? OPEN OR SAVE? AND WHERE?

HOW DO YOU LOAD THE DRIVER? THE INSTRUCTIONS DON"T WORK.

any GOOD advice will be appreciated. If you don't know what you are talking about.... shut up.

* Before using SmartyUSB program to download the upgrade software, the USB driver has to be installed.
To do this, please follow these simple steps:

Unzip the FT232_D2XX_Driver files into a new folder

Plug Smarty in the USB port of your Microsoft Windows® based computer

Windows finds a new hardware and asks for the drivers. DO NOT allow Windows to install the
default driver. Suggest instead to Windows the folder with the files extracted from
FT232_D2XX_Driver.zip as Smarty driver

For further details please see the " Smarty USB driver installation guide" in the Documentation section

You need to download the zipped file and extract to another folder.

That will install the driver

when in doubt read the booklet

Thats it.

Geico, pack up your Smarty and send it out to me first thing tomorrow. This is ridiculous, you shouldn't have to deal with this nonsense. You've wasted enough of your time with this update procedure!

Take a pill man!
