shift points and GSKs

im ready to order the 4k gsks finally for some summer fun and to see what the fuss is about
i know i probably wont be able to rev past 3500rpms due to my 160 pump thats fine i dont want more ...so im planning on not buying the HD springs with it

so anyways i wanna know if my shiftpoints at full throttle will change...and what adjusments do i make to be able to get a WOT shift at like 3400rpm...id like to have that option

Andrew

I really would not install that 4k kit without the springs. You could inadvertently over rev and have a bad valve float accident.. You can not install the smaller inner spring that comes with the 4k kit for the time being, and that will make it a 3k kit until you get the 60lb valve springs.

As for tranny shift points, mine didn't really change, but I have a 47RE trans which is controlled by the computer. I think you have a hydraulically controlled 47RH, which just might indeed change. Not exactly sure though..

i know what ur saying with the springs....umm im hoping i can adjust those shift points though....not much of a fun factor if im still shifting at 2600rpm during WOT and only can only experience the gsks locked in 3rd or 4th....i can imagine full fuel delivery at 3400rpm and shifting at 3400rpm ...thats the stuff dreams are made of

The shift points on your truck are regulated by a mechanical governor that manages the valve body, and should not be impacted by the addition of the higher rpm governor spring kit.

If you want to do a WOT shift, you will need the billet input and output from someone like DTT. You hit the OEM input shaft with kind of torque and you will end up with a nonrepairable boat anchor. You will also need to program your valve body by swapping springs and throttle plates. Once you select a shift point, you will be there until you open the valve body and change it to another selection.

I would not comtemplate the GSK upgrade and higher shift points without major transmission, flexplate, and torque converter upgrades being completed first.

What you are asking is that a transmission rated for 160 horses handle something on the order of 260, and then slamming in at that.

really? i wasnt planning on addign fuel though...same plate for now just no defueling past 2200rpm....so its just not doable without a VB change?...guys with 5 speeds afetr they get gsks can shift anywhere they want ...say 3200rpms or whatever if they wish and they still get full fuelign there....i just want the same thign on my auto if im doing WOT

I think your input shaft will be fine with stock plate and converter. If you want it to shift like that at WOT then just hold it in first till about 3200 and then click it to 2nd then 3rd. Dont see any reason that wouldnt work as good as anything.

The amount of hydraulic pressure in your tranny is responsible for shift points. This is controlled by the valve body, as mentioned previously. There are spring kits out there, I think, that will change your shift points. Call up Dave Goerend (# at GBTransmissions.com) and he can answer all your trans related questions. He sure helped me out.
