whats the hardware diff b/w 3000 and 4000 gsks?

just interested in knowing what's different besides the added valve srpings hardware differences... what about buying the 4k's without the heavy duty springs? i mean i have a 160 pump i'll never see 3500rpm right?? who will sell them to me by themselves?

Only difference is that the 4k GSK has an extra small spring to fit inside the rest of them. The 3k doesent have it. So basically if you have a 3k, you can add that, and have a 4k. You wont need the valve springs unless you plan on holding it to the floor in park all the time, cause the auto wont let it pull past about 2600 or so anyway. I wish i would have went ahead, and got the 4k. Arent they the same price?

The difference in the governor springs is a small inner spring. 4k get the spring and 3k do not.
I believe most of the vendors will sell the 4k kit without valve springs.

Hmmm duelling posts.

I don't know about the 160 pumps, but mine hits 3,600 rpm on the 3k springs. Got a set of inner springs in the soon box. I added the heavy valve springs when the head gasket was replaced a year ago.

Mine will only hit like 3200rpm's, but its popping, and missing bad by then. I think when i get my timing done, allt hat will go away, and it should rev even higher.

thanks guys...4ks is the plan this summer ...but my timing is really low im gonna be poppin white smoke past 2700rpms like crazy...gotta bump that to enjoy those governor springs....whats the thing sound like at 3500rpms? that must be a screamer....does the tranny perform better up in that rpm range? i mean do the rpms drop between shifts?

With stock plate, timing and gsk it sounded OK, but smoked a bit past 3,200 rpm. Stock transmission shifted the same.
Changed timing to 20° at pump (16-17° at injector) smoked cleared up and gained 20 peak hp.
Added #4 plate (fully back) and blew though the converter. I never dynoed with the #4 plate fully back, but the stock (slop) converter will not handle much power increase. I burned out the lock-up clutch with the rpm differential.
Tight Goerend converter and I get a nice rpm drop at shifts points and a low rpm drop when the converter locks.

I love the way mine sounds at about 2900rpm's before it starts missing. I cant wait to get it timed. It just instantly revs now too; even past 2500rpm's.
