More sensitive throttle, but easily driveable. My dually has a 4k in it and it was real easy to drive before the injectors. Those made it a little less smooth.

I thought that there was a mod to get rid of the sensitive throttle issue thats common for the higher speed governor kits.

Thats what I wonder if that actually works, as the governor (flywheel assembly) has only so much room to expand. Put on stiffer governor springs, you just apply more retention force to prevent the governor from expanding. Everything is calibrated for a max of 3000 rpm's, how do you get decent throttle control at 4000 rpm's or 5000 or 6000 rpm's

Rob, I hate to ask this but did you put in stiffer valve springs into the cylinder head?

Anybody, know how much can you shim the stock valve springs for the higher seat pressure and not cause spring binding? I have to get one of those machines.

no valve spring kit ,, you don't need them for 3000 rpm but youdo for 4000 ...as for the spring shim isn't design for higher hold , it'sto make all of the springs the same pressure as they don't all sit or seat the same ,,, but i am sure you know that

I would think so. I bought the inner springs to upgrade my 3k to the 4k for my 12v. Still haven't installed them yet. Valve springs are a good upgrade to prevent valve float. You won't take full advantage of the 4k until you get some airflow (cam mainly), but it'll fuel harder past 3k for sure. Right now my dually maxes out at 3750 rpm. My 12v maxes out at about 3200, and quits fueling hard just before 3k. Either way, I am limited to about 1k of full power in either truck.

wink I got an offer for you....

I just want to run 3k springs so if you would LIKE I can offer you my 4k small springs for free.

the only problem is I don't feel brave enough digging around in my own pump to pull those springs out just yet.

I just want the 3000 rpm for now. if I need more than that I think I will just get my pump benched.

So Tate, when you going to put in that new pump? I'm real curious buddy. With that new engine camshaft, you should make some big power. I was at Rob's shop. It should go pretty easy. You have the 2in abs tube and some dowels? After that its kinda like fishing. Actually its kinda fun replacing the tappets. I had two drop into the oil pan. Thats were the fishing part comes in.

As a land locked Albertan, fishing isn't my forte, so that will be avoided at all costs. I've had the dowels since I did my p-pump, the tray will be easy enough to make up. Talked to Harry, my pump should be done sometime next week. Then its a matter of me coming home to get at it. I'm gonna be booking time at Rob's shop to install the cam, hopefully around the first weekend in March, barring any work intrusions.
