second fuel tank, what might be wrong with this?
Summit sells a 22 gallon fuel cell made for circle track racing, a poly unit inside a steel shell for impact & rollovers. It's got the right dimensions for me to mount it in the bed, and still have room to throw my stuff in there. Is there any reason why I can't do that, and run a fuel line from it through a filter and down to the lower filler neck on the main tank, for a gravity feed? The cell is a lot cheaper than the other stuff I've been looking at, and the right size.

Also, what kind of filter would work in a gravity feed like that? Just a "plain old" in-line for Wally World, or something special?

Thanks!
Could be wrong, but it seems to me that you better put a shut-off valve in that hose down to the fill neck or you'll just overfill a full main tank & leak it all out on the ground... ???

Rene
I would recommend a shutoff valve so you can change or clean the filter but you will not leak on the ground unless you leave the cap off the factory tank. there is a one way check valve in the cap. I tried a " wally world filter and it would not flow enough in cold weather. so I went to one with a sediment chamber and a screen that can be cleaned.
Jim O

i have a homemade aluminum 50 gal tank . i put a cheap electric pump after an in line fuel filter.it`s plumbed in the filler neck ... when i transfer fuel (about 25 gallons) it takes about 20 minutes while i`m going 75 or 80 across nebraska :

One reason those aux. tanks are kinda expensive, is they have to be able to survive an accident/rollover without spraying everything down with fuel.
We never plan for an accident, but it might be something to keep in mind "Just in case".
No one wants to pay huge $$$ for a Hazmat Cleanup when a homemade tank ruptures and diesel fuel goes everywhere in an accident.
