Schwitzer S400

I just picked up a brand new Schwitzer S400 of an 11.1L Detroit series 60. It thought the price was right, I can find something to do with it

So, here's where you guys come in. Could I use this thing in a twins setup, I think Scheid uses one in the kits they sell.

Any special advice you have in trying to use this thing?

Thanks for any help,
Chris

BTW, here are the specs I have on it:

Turbo Specifications:

Cold Side:
Compressor Wheel 64mm, Inducer, 91mm Major

5 in. Inlet and 3.5 in Outlet

Hot Side

1.10 A/R Turbine Housing w/Tangential Scroll

Standard Large-Frame inlet, bolt spacing about 4.5 in. x 2.75 in, V-Band Outlet.

Schwitzer Model S400S-010

Schwitzer Part # 169012

All JR said was he CAN modify it, the rest is up to me

Its a bit small for a higher RPM 12 valve but will certainly match well with a HX35 and staying at 60 PSi overall boost and under 3500 RPM.

The 64/91 wheel is not a monster and not enough for a HX40 or larger compressor is the secondary to get a perfect match.

I've thought about BD's Super turbo. Too big or am I just waaay off?

I guess I don't understand your second statment either. The intake side of my big charger is too small to feed a HX40 (which probably holds true for the BD turbo as well, right)

Guess I should have asked first, huh?

My plans for the truck are towing, and a little playing on the side. Just wanting to be able to run all out and not worry about it. If this setup will keep things cool, I can always throw more fuel at it, 'cause I run in valet mode 95% of the time anyway.

Thanks Again,
Chris

I thought the s400 and the BD super were the same turbo? So are you going for twins or big single? How would the s400 work by itself? I have seen them fairly reasonable also..

The s400 is a medium frame turbo. Like the B-2, but the B-2 has the larger compressor wheel, delivers more air, and matches the airflow requirments of the 40 and B-1 turbos best. The turbo you bought is slightly smaller but will certainly work well with a HX35 in front of it.

It will work well for towing and keep thigs cooooooll!

A s400 alone would be laggy as all get out.

So you're telling me to keep the HX35. Should I have anyone "tweak" it? What housing?

Oh yeah, how long (as in HP) do you think I could run this setup? Would I get close to 500 before I have to start gettin' off the throttle when "playing?"

You just had to get involved, now I've got all these questions

At least now you won't have to PM me back.

Thanks Don,
Chris

What about a wastegate and exhaust housing sizes? My hybrid has a 16 cm2 exhaust housing and a 60mm pinwheel in the compressor.

That 64mm wheel (2.5") is the smallest wheel you can get in the S400. You can get wheels that are MUCH larger that will help out your airflow. Give a call to the Effingham, IL shop of Scheid Diesel and they can fix you up.

the super b single is a s300 the second turbo in the twin setup from BD is a s400

the one thing I can say about the super B is that it cools better than a 35 and spools the same at least with a scotty or a BHAF
