I find your setup very intriguing Ron since your experience differs from some other's advice. I've been told that I'd be better off with a 62 instead of my 64 with either a k31 or b2. This is coming from someone with a qd64 over a s480. Can you describe the spool of the qd64 as a single and in a twinset? Just hoping to learn from your experience before I do whatever I'm going to do in the turbo department =P

I've heard the turbine on the k31 is actually smaller than the one on your QD64. Sounds backwards to me I guess thats why you got the new s400 =P

I went from an SPS62/K31 to a QD64/K31 a while back. Both setups work great. The 64 adds a bit to the top end performance and takes a tiny bit off the bottom end. Either way will tow just fine. But the 62 comes online a tiny bit sooner. The turbine on the k31 is larger than the 71mm turbine on the QD64. I tried my old SPS62 as a single. It was ok as long as you keep an eye on the egt's. No way I would stay into it for very long. There is no comparison power, or egt wise between running the SPS62 by itself and running it with the K31. I switched to the 64 to add a bit to the top and keep my boost numbers at 65psi max with my pump increase.

I think that this is the way to go for sure for me! I finally got my turbo to work and out of the red zone egt wise but in doing so Ihad to dial back the fuel. K31 here I come!

I have 3 different primaries. The 96mm turbine S400 makes the most power, and is my least favorite to drive. Not bad, but not as nice to daily drive.

I just have a big concern if im making as much heat as I am now with stock injectors, stock DV's and not towing that the ps62/k31 wont be enough cooling for me and I really dont want to buy more stuff that dosent work. Since I cant weld do you know if anyone makes setup to hook my sps62 up to a s400?

Rip Rook at Sourceautomotive.com makes all the piping you would need I believe. If you advance your timing more it will help your EGTs btw.

Ron, how would you feel an S400 with 75mm inducer and 1.32 a/r turbine using an 88mm wheel do for street/strip?

That's a good point about the timing there Captain if you are stock that is a problem as you step things up! Ron so overall the best primary for both bottom end and top end charge in your opinion is a k31? How do you think the old Bht3b would work with my ss turbo? Unfortunately the cost is catching up to me and I have to start paring thing's should I just go with the s400 since they are relatively cheap?

I think that would spool faster (or as fast) as a K31 and support about as much HP. Piping would be a little more involved but for the price it would be worth a sot IMO if you are on a limited budget...

does the s400 not cool as good as the k 31 towing at low rpms or is it just laggy? i just need something to keep me cool towing and racing and be a reliable 700 horse truck for all around use.

Sorry dude, unless your talking with drugs you aren't gonna have all you want! I'm not sure you could make 700 rwhp with a K-31 without drugs and if you use drugs you may be buying lots of K-31's

The 400 will cool better on top, but be slower to spool (laggy) and run hotter at low rpm.

I called that source place about pairing the s400 with a sps62. They have a kit that includes everything but the sps62. and of course its $$$$$$$ but he said it only cools on average like 200-300 degrees more then the single.. That dosent seem like its worth all the money and it deffintly dosent seem like it will cool those injectors if I put them in on top of everyone saying the trucks going to be super laggy.
