Red Head Steering box A+
Well I hope they are good as I just bought one yesterday. Called got right in they sounded busy. The lady that helped me was very nice and seemed to know the product. She said I should have it by Tuesday which I thought was great since it was 4:30 Friday afternoon. The cost was $286, $32 for shipping and a $125 core charge. She said when returning the core to use USPS as they are cheapest and it will only be 15.00 flat rate as it doesn't need to be insured on the return trip. Hope to put it on next weekend along with the new vac pump seal that I need to install.
Hey Barry - long time no see...
I met you years ago at one of the TDR CO Springs events - still driving the maroon truck I see.
Anyway, keep us posted on the results of both your maintenance items. I need to do the vacuum seal thing eventually and would like to do the steering gear change sometime too.

Bet it was Linda Foster you talked to, same as me. she one of the Foster family there I think. anyways again. super top notch service and so far the part is top quality.
I used a pcs quick ratio box in my old dodge too, it was junk. right out of the box. within a week the lower seal was out of it. garbage.
Red-Head steering gear all the way until the prove other wise!

Well got the vac pump and steering pump done and while a pita to do it wasn't that bad. Just not much room down there. The seal itself was no problem. I used a kit from Pete Gould at Gould gear and electric ( www.fixinrams.com ) came with two seals two orings etc and a nice video. I would recommend pulling them out as a unit instead of trying to remove the steering pump then removing the vac pump. Though I was replacing the steering pump as well so I did have to drain the pump, disconnect the lines etc but it might be worth doing it that way whether you are replacing the pump or not. The top right bolt of the steering pump has little room for a tool. A curved boxed end wrench might make short work of it though. The pump return lines were a bear to get off in fact I ended up cutting them there was enough slack in the lines to reattach them.
The gearbox was easier and would have been even easier if I didn't have to remove my dss and 3rd gen track bar mount in the way. While I only have 20 miles on it there is a night and day difference with steering and responsiveness . The redhead box at this point so far is awesome. Time will tell though on that.
Steve (cored) I remember that it has been far too long since the area group has had a get together that had to have been 7 or 8 years ago. Our local chapter DTR and TDR pres's don't seem to be up for much or at least as far as I know.
