You loose alot of airflow. A 12v CAN breathe like a 24v but it will cost alot more $$. Why pull the whole motor, just swap the pumps......
i would rather find a deal on a complete 12v motor, then mix-match my current engine. this way i could sell it to offset the cost. plus i want to build it out of the truck.

Had this discussion the other day with a well respected person in the Cummins community, depending on where you are going with it would depend which is better. If you wanted a 350-450hp daily driver thats not gonna be turning high rpms, or even a mild weekend warrior that pulls now and then, a p-pumped 24v would suit you great. However if you are building an all out super-street class puller/racer (tho it may not be drivable it still looks like a street truck) then the far superior strength of the valves coupled with the airflow that can be gotten out of a 12v surpasses the stock airflow of a 24v head, and the 24v valves, seats and guides are junk, its known they are weak.

This has swayed me to get all my bills paid off this year, get all my ducks in a row so to speak and when i can get my hands on a complete 12v truck then I will finally be able to build my dedicated puller from the tires up!

P-pumped 24v's are a lot harder and more expensive to get to run good.... I am not talking about just running, but running as good or better than a 12V. The claim of superior airflow between the heads is bogus. The design of the 12v head really allows for more airflow potential than the 24v, in any event both heads need a good port job for flow. As mentioned the larger stronger valves are a big asse in my book. For an all out pulling engine I believe the 12v rules for more reasons than one.

I saw a full race port done by Raymac's racing in Ft. Worth and I can believe it!! The valves looked like they belong on a train!! intake runners were huge... I forget the specs on it, but it was pretty amazing

We were promised our first run of wiring harnesses last week. We got a small handful of them and promptly got those units sent out. Since then it has dried up with no answer.

Lets put it this way. I jumped an overnight flight and I am a long way from home in order to figure out what the deal is. I suspect that we will see some production pretty soon after leave here.

I will have better information tomorrow.

The airflow that CAN be had from a 12v is not as MUCH AS what can be HAD from a 24v. stock to stock 24's flow better. if you port n polish a 12v vs a stock 24v sure it will do better..
kind of apples to oranges.

Ported cylinder head flow rate, comparison chart:

Stock
12v 24v
145 CFM 161CFM

153 CFM 173cfm

This I not a true statement..... The numbers that are shown are from PDR's website and they aren't really close. Seems like a lot of guys quote these figures, yet when testing 12v vs. 24v heads the 12v came out on top. I had a stage 3 24v head on a truck and its was OK but there is a lot more that can be done to improve flow than what PDR is doing. It's hard to get good flow numbers on the cummins head. Also the larger valve stem diameter is a plus for durability.
