Quite a few years ago I read an article on utilizing straight thru exhaust systems sans mufflers or resonators. This was for spark ignited engines. I don't have the article anymore, but I do remember a picture of a person holding up the pipe for show and tell. The pipe was obviously bent in many shapes to conform to some vehicle application. No muffler and no resonator. However, of interest is somewhere with in the straight length(s) of the pipe were dents put in the pipe in staggered fashion and alternating 180 deg. How many, covering what distance, I can't say. I believe the claim was lower noise level and very little restriction.<br>Matters not to me in either raising or lowering the db of my exhaust note in my 99 Q4 Short 4:10. Don't much care either way. I would really like to gain a little more creature comfort by moving the droning/resonance farther upstream in rpm's. Say 2500+.

creature comfort is important. that is, if the creatures riding with you are important! just for grins, if I were you I'd try to stiffen up or add mass to the longest pipe section you have. clamp something on there to see if you can tame that resonance. I've not done that myself -- this is just a purely theoretical suggestion.

Check with DTT or call Scott @ MassDiesel Performance, I really like my exhaust system from them! Don't notice any noise louder than the stock one was! (unless of course, the exhaust brake is on!) ;D
