I take it you did EVERYTHING by the book. The thermocoupler wire has to stay the length it is, too. All I can suggest is to go over the install again very carefully and if all looks right then maybe call whomever you got the gauge from, or Autometer themselves.

yeah, i tested the thermocouple with aN ohm meter, its good, so the gauge itself is bad, i love it when you spend a hundred bucks on something for it to be shat! Farging Ebay

did you get the red-yellow wires crossed up when you put the 2 wires together with the stove bolts??? thats why mine didn't work. and i had to undo the shrink wrap stuff to figure it out, man what a job!!

no i didnt, i even triple checked. I get varying resistance as i hit the go pedal, so i think the sender is fine, but the BRAND NEW gauge is garbage. The crappy thing is that on autometers website, i need to pay to ship it to them and then pay to have it shipped back, how is it my fault that the gauge is faulty, i think they should prepay to fedex it back to them considering it is brand new. My parts store wont return because it was special order, the said its manufacturer warranty. crud!
sorry to vent everyone, just a little ****** off at this point.

Just a suggestion,,,,,,,,
Have you called and talked to anyone at Auto Meter yet? I just recently started having problem with my Pyro not wanting to register until the truck has been driven a couple miles or so. These gauges are over two years old and past the warranty period, but the guy I talked to on the phone was real decent and said he had not seen one do this before. We talked about the things to check and what I had checked already. Keep in mind that I called just to ask for info about anything I may not have checked and at the end of the conversation, the Auto Meter guy says, "Give me your address and I'm going to send you a thermocouple first and we'll see if that corrects it",,,,,,,, No charge,,,,,,, No proof of purchase,,,,, Just a manufacturer concerned about their product.
So, I'm not saying that this will be the case with every situation, but I was impressed with their actions on an out-of-warranty product. It might be beneficial for you to contact AM directly and I would also mention to them that the parts store refuses to cooperate. Sounds like the parts store is passing the buck,,,,,,, special order or not,,,,,, I would think that they would help find a solution to the problem also.
Hope ya get things straight. Just my $.02

Yeah, call or E-mail Auto-Meter.

My boost guage started sticking about 10 months after I bought it, so I call them up, and they told me to send me the old one with a copy of the reciept, and they will send me a whole new gauge.

I think that's pretty good service, at least I'm satisfied with it

Chris

Thats why I use GenosGarage.com I have had problems with gauges in the past, and they sent me a brand new one with a return postage for the old one. Thats service that keeps customers coming back!!

I am in no way assocaited with them at all. I have just had good experience with them for the past 5 years.

I had a Lordco ( local auto parts place) over the counter replace a 11 month old Autometer 0-35 boost gauge that the needle buzzed once it went over 10psi
No questions even after I told him I had pinned it many times and wanted a 0-60psi instead However I did have to pay $1 more for the 60lb
IMHO its not the product as much as the vendor for service
