Pump tapping? Can't find info by search?

I keep reading about tapping the VP44 injection pump. Is this someting you can just do by a wire, or do the aftermarket chips like edge/quad/TST come with a wire tap.

My buddy currently has a Smarty and I'm not sure how you would tap the pump or if it's possible with the Smarty. Please explain wire tap to VP44.

Thanks in advance.

The wire tap is used by boxes like the Edge Comp, Edge Juice, TST, etc. to provide more fueling beyond what you can provide through the data link into the ECM.

It really is just as simple as tapping into the wire going into the VP44, but you want to make sure you use a good secure tap. Scotch-locks work, but not really recommended. I've used the Posi-tap connectors before, but now I have a line soldered onto the wire for the best connection.

The Smarty doesn't use a wire-tap because it's just a program in the ECM. Only an external box would use a wire tap.

when you do buy a fueling box, they give very detailed info on tapping the wire on the VP-44. I know my TST 4 years ago came with great instructions. plus they also show it on the website for wwwtstproducts.com have you even looked and read such stuff, TST has a pretty good article explaining their box and what it does. and what goes on with the ecm, injection etc. etc

Tapping the wire is a pain and after a while it can come loose. It is worth the money to buy the BD Stealth Cover to do this. Works great.

On my 02 its the upper wire closest to the engine block. It makes a lot of difference. I can push almost 40 pounds of boost

The box will add fuel with the wire tap. It can make a lot of difference, but you need to know what is going on, so get gauges FIRST.

Now, IF you use this extra power a lot, you will lose mileage! Use less throttle and it SHOULD get a little better mileage. We ussually advise a little bigger injector FIRST this is the best way to get better mileage. 50-75 hp. A box can quick destroy a trans or clutch.
You are about to go over the cliff that we call BOMBING!!!

I would use a VP stealth cover, no wire cutting required. Works the same. Wiring tapping always had issues if the wire is connecting or not. The plate is just a cleaner way of tapping the pump.
