pryometer gone crazy

ok so today on my way home from work i noticed my pyro gauge needle bouncing around everywhere. its an autometer ultra lite gauge. i found out after playin around with the gas pedal, brake, and trans i traced it to where it only bounces around when i hit the brakes and only when i hit the brakes and the transmission has to be in reverse or drive or 1 and 2 gear when its in park or nuetral and i hit the brake it doesnt bounce around. so basically the needle bounces around only when i hit the brake and the transmission has to be in gear. the needle looks like its on crack it just goes crazy any ideas?

My trans temp guage does the same thing, it must be a ground or something.

usually its a ground, i dont know how its tied into the brakes though...

A friend of mines oil pressure gauge does that in his mustang, if he unhooks the ground it will stop but wont allow the engine to run because it thinks there is no oil pressure.

My pyro does something similar. Been to lazy to check the wires. I actually have an autometer also. I guess I will look in to it and post the results..... Maybe collectively we can figure it out or all get new gauges?

my isspro has done it, called them and said to lightly sand/clean the leed wires, I don't know about autometer by on the isspro the leedwires screw together about 2' past the probe. Try to clean/sand them, if not check grounds/power wires.

AUTOMETER SUCKS!!!! sorry, but my pyro does the same dang thing... but only at night when i turn my lights on...... and it doesnt bounce it just goes to 0 unless im going really slow through town or at idle.... sometimes it will work then, but not always..... it even has its own ground and key on power!... i called autometer and they didnt know what to do, so they sent me a new one... and it did the same thing...... im gonna get a mechanical guage soon.... oh and my autometer fuel pressure gauge is acting retarded to!.... mechanical is the way to go... just my two cents

I would bet its a ground issue. clean the ground, clean any paint off under the ground. remember that you can't put a ground on top of plastic and rely on the bolt to be the ground, it doesn't work well. Or check if you have fuse taps, and get rid of them. They can cuase lots of grief. also if you have any butt conectors on any of the wires get rid of them. solder or just do a really good twist and tape or shrink tube. hopefully this helps.

I agree. Take apart the connections where the gauge wires screw to the probe wires, and clean up the eyelets with sandpaper.

Mine bounces when I have a turn signal on.
I also noticed a couple of days ago that mine was bouncing in time with the music when I had the stereo cranked up. Kinda funny too. The high notes gave it slight movement and the bass made it bounce harder. It was just like watching a decibel meter.

Where are all of you getting your power from? Sounds like fluctuations in voltage, especially when turn signals cause problems. As far as the bass from the radio, if the windows rattle, what do you think that little arm on the gauge is going to do. To fix that, turn **** on radio down, remove **** and throw it in the trash.

well the window doesn't rattle and I'd prefer to be able to adjust the volume as opposed to having a fixed setting that would satisfy YOUR NEEDS!!! Maybe I should remove the Pyro????? That would stop it from fluctuating all together!!
Funny if it was just volume as opposed to a power surge/grounding issue wouldn't one expect the trans temp and boost gauge be bouncing as well????

hahahaha my pyro used to do that too!! every time my subs hit hard the pyro would zero out.... so i redid my wiring and everything was fine... for about 3 months..... then one night i was driving and noticed my pyro had zeroed out again when my lights were on... during the day its fine!!?? I dont understand why it would work fine for 3 months and then not!?
