Today I installed some EDM 1.5's in my truck which I just recently had a recon rv 275 engine installed in. I wanted to be like HAULIN IN DIXIE. I put the comp on 5x5. WOW is all I can say. I hooked to a STROKER, DURAMAX, & CAT D-4 dozer all at one time. I barely moved them a couple of inches, but they couldn't out pull me. LOL! It sounded good didn't it? The truck has enough power at 120 mph,3150 rpm, 1200 degrees, it flipped both of my mirrors into the windows. I guess the mirrors were slowing me down. When this happened, I thought the turbo had blew apart, I was at around 46 lbs of boost when this event happened. The EDM'S work very well. They won't smoke if you set the smoke level down. on 5x1, I noticed no smoke. I guess I need to try to figure out the best thing to do about a turbo. Anybody have any ideas of a turbo that will perform well at 50 lbs of boost & be a good daily driver?

I am using the stock HX-35, but I do have the waste gate locked down shut. That is probably the difference. I actually hit 50 psi boost this morning, when it was cooler. I am going to stop acting crazy with it now. I was thinking of the B-1 series, because I don't want to do twins. I don't think you are any better with the hx 40 hybrids either. From what I have researched, they can not handle any more pressure than the 35. Any turbo guys out there got some good advice on which way to go here? Hey Duke, I wonder if you are missing something. I would think your truck should hit much higher boost levels. Where do you have your waste gate set? that might be your problem. I can hit 32 lbs, just on injectors, with the COMP turned off. Thanks

Eh? I was under the impression that the boost elbow that came with comp would allow a hx35 to make around 30-32psi? I thought they choke around 35-37psi and would come part if you spun them hard enough to make 50psi? I know someone with B1, drag comp, and 130hp plugs and he only pushs 45psi or so. Maybe I'm confused...

I have NO idea what the HX35 will take until it quits. I had hoped some of the TURBO guys would chime in & help us out on this one. I do know it will do 50 psi. I will hold it at 46 psi& 1450 degrees until my rpm's top out at 3150, then the egt's drop back to 1200. I just can't wait for a stroker or duramax to get behind me, I am gonna lay some black smoke all over them. The smoke looks really cool coming out of my duals. It looks like two sideways tornadoes. I want to get somebody to sit in the back of the truck & video while I do a burnout with it. I just can't find anybody to sit in the back of the truck.LOL!!

With my set up on my truck 2.2 edms and tst comp on 5 i can hit 50psi with my b1-2 on 9 on the tst i can hit 55 psi. i have ran the dodgezilla and other hybrids and a piers 40 and the b1-2 spools quicker pulls harder and runs cooler. Its alot of money but its a very good investment.

I have seen some negative info on the dependability of the B1 series turbos. Also, what does the B1-2 cost & where is the best place to buy one? Do you think I will gain any more boost using this unit, or keep producing the same amount of boost. How does it affect the EGT's ? Thanks

Going price for a B1-2 is about $1600 from Wildcat, Piers, etc.

Just my opinion, but I would think, if you want some "negative Info" on an HX-35, keep running yours at 45+ psi. You'll have your own testimonial when it flys apart.
B-1's are very reliable and give more cool usable air at 50 psi than any other streetable (quick spooling) turbo. Call Rod at Wildcat Diesel for the straight scoop on which one (4 models) would do best for you.

Thanks Mr Johnson for the tip. I can't remember where I saw the negative info on the B1's,but you know everybody has got something negative to say about something, so it might have been just one of those days for somebody. From what I have seen here, the B1-2 looks like the way to go since I am down here in flat land. Does the B1 handle towing OK? I do hope if I blow up my 35, it blows out ,instead of inward.

Others who tow can probably answer your question better, but I do haul heavy. I think the 1.5's you have will not give you sufficient drive pressure on a B1-2 to provide you with steady supply of boost while towing...but not sure. With the right B-1 turbo, it will handle towing very well!
Rod at Wildcat has seen most combinations and applications for the B-1's and will give you good advise with no sales pressure: worth a call. http://www.wildcatdiesel.com/
Also kind of curious: you only had 1200* EGT at 46 psi boost?? Is this pre or post turbo for your temp probe?
Good Luck!

I use a Turbonetics t-04 turbo on mine. I made an adapter plate to go from the factory manifold to the t04 bolt pattern and in between the two flanges I have an external wastegate plumbed in. I used to have a tubular header on my truck and it worked great until I bought a new trailer and I cooked it and it fell apart.
The truck makes great power and i tow a 53' trailer with 2 cars in it and lots of tools.
