Question Possibly a New Lift Pump Idea?

I was thinking has anyone ever tried a SD Ford PSD Electric Lift pump? They are pretty durable you seldom ever hear of them going out. They run about 50-60psi, would it hurt the pump to regulate it down to 20psi. The pump mounts on the frame just below where the drivers feet sit, so they pull fuel qute a distance.I think you could get the pumps cheap from a salvage yard , that maybe a bad idea , who knows. I would not be scared to try one from a salvage yard. The main thing is would it hurt the pump to regulate it down to 20psi? I think there are people in the 400hp range that still use a stock fuel pump. My intention is to help, so keep a open mind.

Maybe a guy could put a regulated bypass valve on it to regulate the pressure and flow,do you kno what the GPM is on it.

I don't know what it flows but i have a friend that is a Ferd Diesel Tech , maybe he can tell me. I may try this but i need to do some homework first, i guess i could put it back by the fuel tank and if it doesn't work put a carter or a holley blue on.

The info i am getting is saying 36gph at 70 psi, that is a 1/2 gallon per minute. Will the gallon per hour be enough? What will happen to gallon per hour when the pressure is lowered to 20psi? Would you even need a regulator, is our fuel system free flowing enough to not let the pump biuld 70psi. The PSD uses a pressure regulator to keep the pressure at 65psi, this is what pressure the injecters need to fill correctly. With no regulator what would our pressure be with the factory lift pump removed?

My question is why go to all the trouble of trying to engineer a Ford pump to work? A relocation of the stock lift pump, off the engine back to the frame next to the tank, will resolve all lift pump problems.

If no one tried to improve or try new things where would we be now?

I have wondered about this since I just replaced my lift pump! I have gauges to monitor the pressure but would like to prevent it if possible since I hear about new lift pumps going out 20,000 miles later. I have seen the kits but can not find them now. Where is a good source for this? Thanks.

There has been some who have relocated the stock pump back by the tank, would be nice to hear from those who done it as to how many miles they have put on since doing it, also if there has been a pump failure, i;m not talking about the after market pumps like Fass or some different Holleys, just the OEM pumps.
