My truck has started surging and jerking when taking off in second gear.Driving me crazy!!! Sometimes it feels like it's the clutch and other times maybe the pump or Accelerator control sensor because when it finally does stop jerking, it will hesitate and puff a ball of black smoke!! Anyone experience a similiar situation???
From my 2001 FSM -
P0602 (M) "M" is for the check engine light being lit, is yours lit?
ECM fueling calibration error - ECM internal fault condition detected
P1693 (M)
A "companion DTC was set in both the ECM and PCM
I would start by checking battery voltage, battery cables and most important grounds. Have you done any electrical work or added electrical devices lately? How old are your batterys?
If the batterys, grounds and cables are OK I would disconnect the batterys overnight and then reconnect and drive the truck to see if it helped.

Save your pennies for a new injector pump. Hate to be that kind of messenger, but those codes indicate problems with the injector pumps timing and internal calibration. Clean any connections to the pump you may have moved if you added.

Do a search in the 24V section on those codes..
I think I am TOTALLY WRONG.... THe codes you put down indicate a communication problem with the ECM.. If you have an inline box connected I would look at the connections.
Based on those codes, its not the same fault codes for a pump.. Sorry..

Ok,I will. The only reason I'm not ruleing out my pump is because about 3 months ago my pump was acting up all of a sudden and I was experiencing very low power going down the road but once I shut my key off and back on again real quick, I would have my power back but only for a short time!! I was about to order a new Inj pump when the problem siezed to exist all of a sudden!!??
I did change my APPS sensor a couple of years ago with one from Timbo. I'm thinking on replacing this as to what Ive read on this forum they are usually only good for 2-3 years. I am at witts end with this because the jerking/hesitation followed by a cloud of black smoke is about to drive me bananas!!

Is your dash gauges still working? you have fuel pressure? Mines stumbles around 23-26psi when I'm on the lower fueling setting on my comp box. I had one ecm failure, the truck initially wouldn't make any power and finally stopped working.
I got the 0602 code when I use my smarty and its just nothing. If you run smarty with timing and a fueling box with timing, it might be the VP getting mixed signals.
I'm currently running an original VP off an roll over 01 VP truck that had over 200000km's on it, and I have put another 160000km's on it. My wire has been tapped and had tons of fuel system issues. It still runs good and makes decent power. I get people old VP's that don't seem to work or throw codes. I install them, have no issues and the truck will perform decently with the pump.
