whats the biggest single turbo i can run?
well im not having EGT problems yet, but i may when i buy some 370s so i want to have the turbo ready to go.. what is the biggest single turbo i can run and still have decent spool up with the mods in my sig + new era 370s?
i had an he351 from an 05 i was going to buy but its gone, and i wasnt completely sold on it anyway.. i was thinking HX40 but im worried about breaking it, im easily hitting 36psi now and its not hard to bark it by accident with these canadian winters and no traction.. i dont tow anything much heavier than 8000# regularly but i want to be able to tow heavier if i have to..
thanks in advance, and by the way i did lots of searching before posting..

You should be asking whats the smallest turbo you can run with that combo. The bigger you go, the less responsive it becomes. You could run a 75mm turbo as a single if you chose to, but that wouldn't be much fun anywhere south of 2500 rpm.
HE351 probably would have been a good choice. I know Big Blue24 did just a hair under 500hp on a 24v with one. Toasty though. I'd look into a 62/68 turbo, should be a a nice compromise between quick spooling and heat control.

thanks, thats kind of that i was thinking.. i knew the he351 was decent but i didnt like the 9cm housing.. i dont plan on any other mods after the sticks so as long as i can keep cool with that combo and still spool decently quick ill be really happy.. and if it stays reasonably cool with the 100 plate i will probably take that out completely and see how it works..
one more question, where do i find a good 62/68 turbo for a decent price?

Talk to Forced Inductions or Engineered Diesel. Or any Borg Warner dealer, really. If you do the latter, you're more likely to get a T4 housing. Much cheaper, but doesn't spool as quick as a T3 housing.
even with the new era 370s with the correct spray pattern? i know to stay away from the marine 370s but i thought the DDPs and new eras were ok..

i noticed today that while picking up speed on an on ramp i hit 38psi very easily and it jumped to 40 when it locked up.. from this i am convinced my wastegate is seized.. am i playing with fire with the stock hx35 and 40psi? whats the most i should see with this turbo and stock head studs?
im seriously thinking about jumping the gun on a he351vgt, i just need the excuse as to why i need a bigger turbo so the wife doesnt think im wasting money on my truck

Big injectors, big tubo, not at all good for towing!!!!
Same some grief and just twin it!!
You like many of us bought, will buy several turbo's, before we figured out that you are not going to have it both ways without enough air.

yes i really want twins, its just not in my wallet right now.. im not looking at going too big on turbo right now, thats why im looking into the VGT stuff.. should be the ticket for towing and a little hot rodding untill i can come up with the coin for a twin setup.. im more or less just a little worried about this hx blowing up in the mean time..
How much egt you running? You tow? If you tow and have high egt's now lean towards a turbo charger with a larger turbine disk size. The beniefts is that the turbo will not bark as much, but will spool slower. You'll have more egt's/smoke when starting to spool-up than a smaller size turbine disk. Its kinda of a juggling act. A turbo like 62/68 or 64/68 works well for most trucks around 425-475 RWHP power range. Tuning/adjusting of your pump will help lower spool-up smoke and egt's.
HX-40's work well, I have tons of miles on them. They break when you start to adjust the wastegate on them. Seen a few broken turbos, they break regardless of brand. There are a few decent 40's turbo set-ups and tons of ones that don't work.

what are your thoughts on the s300sx3-63 turbo? with the mods in my sig is it going to spool like a turd with that housing?

well my sig isnt showing on my computer so here it is.. i have new era 5x12s, 100 plate slid a tiny bit, 3000gsk, low stall billet converter, getting the timing bumped to 16-17* soon and i tow 10000+ in the summer.. with the stock turbo i can hit 1400* on a good hill with the 5er behind me

It will be abit sluggish. We ran the S366 T-4 0.91 74mmon a 97 dually five speed, stock (but tweaked pump 215HP), stock 215 injectors, 4kgsk. It took till 2k to spool, but we could build boost till 50psi and still have egt issues.
Once spooled, it was fun and wee bit smokey. The egt's and smoke can be dialed back but thats no fun.
