PDR Master Power turbo(?)
Ok, so I need a cheap solution to my turbo problems... My HX40 is not exactly tow friendly on my truck and PDR has a really good deal on their Master Power 66mm turbo ($550) and I was just wondering if anyone has experience with one and if anyone knows how big the exhaust housing is... Basically I just want to know if this is going to spool faster than the HX40 w/16cm housing. It's obvious that it is going to flow more air (60mm vs 66mm).
Any help would be great... Thanks guys
EDIT: I have some custom 6x.009 EDM'd injectors and a three piece manifold on the way. I figure those alone should help with the EGT's while towing (I tow my tractor around all summer), but I need something that flows more air and spools quicker and this is within my budget

I've heard they have too small of a shaft for the wheels and are failure prone. One concern is spoolup, it will spool slower than your HX40. The fact that PDR lists it as 450 HP is concerning as well, a comparable 66mm s300 based turbo will be rated anywhere from 6-800 HP, so it has something fishy going on. I do admit, the price is right.
Thanks for the replies guys... I'll just bite the bullet and go with an Industrial Injection SPS62 14 then. I just wanted to see if I could get away with spending less money. I don't race all the time with it, but I am pretty mean to my turbo and am rather surprised the HX40 hasn't crapped out on me yet. I snapped the shaft in my stocker so if this one has a reputation for snapping shafts then I want nothing to do with it. Thanks again guys

66mm compressor wheel with a P-trim turbine, should spool well with the proper fueling but without a ported shroud compressor surge will be an issue. The 0.25" shaft is weak but if supplied with enough oil they hold up well in their own right.
Hey Don, could a guy port the compressor shroud by removing it and machining some grooves, or is there a special formula and certain gap and location to make effective ports? Just picking your brain, you seem to know alot more than the average guy about diesel turbos.
