I have a spare NV4500 2X4 and want to make it a 4x4. Is all I ned to do is swap the mainshaft and tailhousing?? Anyone done this care to help me out?? Any special tools that I need??

Total disassembly of the tranny might as well put bearings in it while you have it tore apart

 

Do I need any special tools to do the rebuild?? I figured new bearings, sunchros, seals, ect. Anything I will have to do besides the tail housing and mainshaft??

The 5th gear nut takes a special tool, but the rest is "normal".
Yes, the mainshaft and tail housing is all you should need to change.

 

its been a while, but i did that to an ild ford tranny, cant remember what kind. we had to change out the main shaft because of the length. If you do have to do that then you will need a few differnt snap ring pliers, parts washer, bearing press, and a real good memory, it really helps if you can devot all your time to it at once. also black silicone and black spray paint, just make sure to save all your shims,a nd put your snap rings and gears in the exact same location/direction. and a little lite sanding were the syncronizers go (600 or 800 grit)
