New Turbo??

I want to get some info on what turbo would be good for my setup. My signature says how my truck is setup now. I want to get a better turbo for towing and street. How is the HTT 64/14 rate? Give me some feedback on what would work for my truck? thanks.....

Dave

64/14 is a little big for towing but would do better with a 5spd. Look for like a 62/12 or 62/14

I didn't have any problems towing with a 64/14. A 64/14 is very close to the super 62 so many people are raving about. I just switched from a 64/65/14 to a 62/71/14 and the biggest difference I've noticed so far is boost came on smoothly with the 64 and this super 62 kicks in hard. Boost threshold, overall boost, and egts are very close.

Hoping to break 500 with the super 62?

I think just cleaning up my mucked up sensors was enough to get me there, but I'm in no hurry to dyno.

The Super B would be a good match to what you have. It will have great throttle response and flow enough to do 450hp comfortably. It will also upgrade to the twin kit down the road if you want to switch to twins.

Pat I am selling my six six Impala on EBAY right now. Once it is sold I will contact you about a Super B BABY....!!!!

How will the Super B effect my EGT's compared to what I am seeing with my stock turbo?

Thanks for the help..

64/14 would be too big with a 12v running that fuel. A 62 series or Super B would be ideal.

You can't compare to a 3rd gen, they always do better running a big turbo that size. So yeah a 3rd gen guy is going to say it's no problem.

I don't really know how much fuel he's got on the 12v, but I think the 64's get a bad rep from posts like this. IME the 64 is a good compromise between spool and top end power, it took me over a year to decide if I wanted to go bigger or smaller from there. The Super B is good for what, around 350 on a 12v?

A super B should easily support more than 400hp on a 12 valve. I made 337 on the stock charger without crazy EGT's. 400hp on the HX35 isnt that uncommon.

I have ridden in a 12 valve truck towing with the 62/12, and i wasnt impressed. There is a pretty big difference in how the turbo's spool, and tow from a 12 valve to a 24 valve.

I think im gonna try a Super B on mine whenever i get that far.

west coast, i did quite a bit of research on this also before choosing my turbo. i went with the new htt 62/13/71 because the 13 sounded like a good compromise between the 12 and the 14. its only come in the stainless though. from what i saw before my head gasket went i really liked it. it was a little slow off the go if you just slam the go petal but with the 5 spd you can run right in the sweet spot with it. also you have the 4k gsk advance that timing some more and i think you will find a better top end power with a slower spooling turbo. but when the 62/13/71 lights off it goes fast and hard. they said it is set at the factory at 42# first time i mashed the petal mine hit 60#. I have also heard really good things about the silver bullet, that was my second choise. garret was the best price on the htts that i found. hope that helps your decision

That seems to be a characteristic of HTT's 71 turbine. Nice kick in the pants.

If you want to get to 500rwhp and tow with it, I would go bigger than the super B. I like the garrett 4094R. You would need a T-4 turbo exhaust flange on your exhaust manifold. It would out spool your 62 series and out flow them. Its more money but your getting alot more turbo. I'm buying one of those to try with a garrett T-88 for a set of home made twins. The turbo will be less money than the BD twins and will out perform them. Being a 12v truck, depending on how much advance on your pump you run will be the biggest factor in your turbo selection as your egt's will require you to buy a larger turbo than the HP rating. At 500rwhp, your almost need twins to tow without worring about your pyro.
