New Gun Rack

Hello
Well I just had a brainstorm, and although it made me cuss and moan a little on the install, I got it in.

I had been wanting a way to easily carry at least one firearm while hunting. I have a standard cab, and I dont like storing them in the bed with the cases, and up front, well, they flop around and in general get in the way. Especially when I have dogs with me. Also the type of hunting I do, (predators-crows) dictates that I am jumping in and out of the truck a lot over the course of a day.

I looked at some of the products available, and found them all wanting in some way. Most of these mount on the roof, or in place of the center console. In any case, not what I wanted.

So as I was browsing, I thought I would look at how the ATV boys do theirs, and maybe find something that would work.

I got a set of ATV finned rubber racks from my local outdoor power shop. These racks can be configured to hold either one or two firearms.

I pulled out the bottom storage tray from behind the seat. It served little purpose, as I have a crossbed toolbox.

The racks I chose assemble in a neat manner, with splined posts that fit into matching recesses. I set mine up such that the rack for gun #2 is kicked forward of gun #1 at about a 30 degree angle. Doing this allowed me to get the whole assembly in there, without the seats bearing on it, even fully retracted.

Now basically, all you had to do was drill a couple holes through the carpet and the body, and bolt everything it. Simple enough, but like I said, I had to start cussing. Of course the insulation beneath the carpet got tangled, and it just happened that the assembly that was for the drivers side was right above the fuel tank. So I had to be careful, and this did not give me a lot of room to install the nuts.

If I had it to do over again I would invest in the LONG STRAIGHT and THIN open end wrenches. I probably will anyway. That would have saved much cussing.

But I got them in, and they work wonderful. If you have a black interior, they match that real well.

Hope this helps, and I hope the JPG displays.

http://www.mooseutilities.com/images...ckM9221140.jpg
