New Ball joints, what else????

Well I need 4 new ball joints. I will be ordering them from rockauto. What else should I do while I am in there. The wheel bearings are still good and I will be putting grease fittings in them while I am in there. That will just be temp. until I have some money for the EMS kit. What else should I do, axle seals, u-joints, ext. I just want to get everything at my door because it will be a long walk to the parts store with the truck apart. Thanks for the help

I would put u-joints in if it was my truck. Have you checked the brakes?? I would do pads and rotors too, but only if it needed them. The u-joints I would do good or bad.

Hopefully you won't need new unit bearings. Might wanna check with your local auto parts store to see if they are in stock. Never know what you'll run into.

The brakes are good. What is the best way to check the unit bearings, or you dont know until you take them off. I really dont have the extra 250 a side for those. But the u-joints I will deff. do. What about axle seals

Also, maybe do your tie-rods while you have everything apart. I did my front end last winter with new hubs, ujoints, ball joints, tie-rods, brakes, and rotors. I wanted to get away with just what need to be done but I figure its either pay now or pay later. You'll be happier if you do everything at once.

Seals are in the axle tube and a pain in the butt to change. If you have the patience then sure, I would only do mine if they were leaking. Wheel bearings should be noisy now if they are bad. I hope someone had them off before and never seized them real good or you might not get them off in one piece.

I doubt they have ever been off. I am the second owner and it only has 72k. I have done the trick with the metal to the frame and to the bolts using the power steering and that has worked before so I hope it will work again. There is no noise so I hope they are good. I am going to but grease fittings in them when there off
