new

all right so I am 18 and jest bought my first truck. A 1996 Dodge 2500 turbo diesel. i am going to be haling quite a bit of concert sound equipment from show to show for my sound company and am also going to be plowing a lot with it . I was reading up on it and was thinking about adding a comp on updating the air intake system and changing the exhaust system.

any suggestions on other mods that i can make fairly easily?

what exhaust systems do you suggest?

what air intake systems do you suggest?

if i put temp gauges in what are the temp's supposed to be around before damage occurs

i have the automatic trans what mods can i make that would be helpful and prevent wear and tear while plowing?

Thanks

the new newb

Welcome to the site. First things first, do gauges. Boost, EGT, and Tranny temp. Next, do some research on what exhaust system you want to buy. They are all about the same. Only difference is price. For air intakes, I'd only get a scotty 2. For tranny temps, anything over 200* is bad. At least in my book. For trans upgrades, do a search on them. More than enough. I wish you many happy miles of trucking.

Adding a comp? As in a fueling box?

If so... your 96 doesn't take a fueling box. You have to mess with the pump to get your power.

Good news is!!! Much cheaper to get HP out of the P7100 than the other pumps.

Nice choice on trucks. Good luck

Go to the TST site and check out the table on fuel plates they have. Yours takes a fuel plate for power increase. As mentioned get gauges FIRST!! You have to know what is going on in there as you do mods. At least an EGT gauge to watch temp changes, but boost is good as is a temp gauge for the tranny for towing or loads. Check my sig and many others for what others are running. Do some reading and decide how much you can spend and what you are after for performance. There are several things you can do for more punch now. Slide stock plate forward, get a BHAF, adjust star wheel and make sure timing and valves are adjusted.

You can slide you stock plate full forward and some other little things to get about 40 extra horsepower for little to nothing. If you plan on adding more hp your going to have to beef up the tranny ESP since you will be towing. Throw a tranny temp gauge, boost and EGT gauge also. Then an AFE stage 1 or a Scotty system then a 4" exhaust. Check with Kyle at www.extremedieselperformance.net for great prices. I just ordered my gauges from him and all it gotta say is . Happy BOMBing......
