Need some info on Smarty

A friend of mine where I work was asking about some power adders for his 01 and was curious what I recommended for his truck. I was quick to suggest the Smarty or the Adrenaline but the Adrenaline was a little more than he wants to spend right now. He does plan on getting some injectors so the Smarty seems like the best choice.

The question I have is: He is coming from Dr Perf module that was putting out about 100 hp or so, what kind of impressions will he have with the Smarty compared to the Dr P? He likes the way my truck smokes with the Jr but is a little hesitant about the clamied 65 Hp gain, that seesm a little low to him. I told him that it will feel much more than that with the throttle response and low end that he will gain.

His truck is a manual BTW, so he is not worried about any trans issue. Any feedback will be appreciated, I am new to the VP stuff. Thanks in advance.

If likes to be able to smoke at will then he'd love the smarty. If he already has a 100 hp box then the smarty might not add much power. It would change the way the truck responds to throttle input, remove rev limiters/ rate limiters/ defueling. If it were a hot box, the smarty might actually cost the truck power on the dyno, but it will brings the power in sooner which feels great on the street.

His Dr p 100HP module has failed and he is looking to replace the box, not to run as a stack. The Smarty will be a stand alone power adder.

I don't even run my Smarty anymore. The Adrenaline has every bit of bottom end, not to mention cooler egts while towing & adjustments on the fly. I would sell my Smarty if it weren't for the code reading capabilities. A new update is suppose to be coming for Smarty [Revolution] & I know it will smooth things out & cool features, but I still vote Adrenaline. Adrenaline has timing, fueling adjustments on the fly in real time, Smarty will also, but still will need to pull over to update these features.

I use my Smarty still, but I run it at #2, and it's basically just a gucci boost fooler. In daily driving commuter usage, anything over 5 is just annoying with the lack of progression in the throttling-- it's just too much work to drive smoothly.

I've also taken to running the no-timing softwares, even with no other power adders. The engine seems MUCH happier--quieter, smoother. I haven't checked mpg, but I really don't care. It's SO much easier on the driveline and everything else to have the smoothness and controllability of #2.

If I get another power adder, I will probably go to that entirely and give up the Smarty. Who knows, a new software might come out for it-- I'm hoping I still have my truck then. I tend to only keep vehicles for 10 years or so
