Need some help.....
Well, Ive been lurking here for a few months now, and have read everything I could find, but I have a question to ask you guys. I have a 94 automatic, all stock except for a straight pipe and guages. (EGT, boost, and tranny temp) Yesterday I installed a tst #6 plate. I installed it in the exact same position as the stock plate, and I did not adjust the starwheel at all. The truck had what seemed like a whole bunch more power, and would puff a small black cloud off of a dead stop, and as soon as it got into boost, the smoke would dissapear. Everything seemed great, EGTs were about 650ish post turbo at full throttle, and it had about 20lbs of boost. Well today I was driving home from work, mashed the throttle and the truck took off like normal, then all of a sudden it went into warp 9. The truck pulled so hard it scared the crap out of me and I lifted out of it. I then punched it two or three more times and it wouldnt do it, but then on the next stab of the throttle it went back into hyperdrive. I watched the guages this time and the EGTs stayed right around 700 post turbo, and this time the boost was up around 27-28 lbs. The truck was pulling hard, I was giggling like a little girl. Now, my question is this, did I not adjust the plate correctly to begin with, or is something hangin up inside the pump, so that it only runs like this sometimes. I really would like it to run like that all the time.....
Thanks in advance!
Thanks in advance!
Sounds to me like either the governor lever is sliding under the plate, or your transmission is going into lock up and your feeling the power that is there. Does this happen at different speeds? Check out this link http://www.piersdiesel.com/TechLeverAdj.htm to see how to check and adjust the gov. lever.
