Re:Need HELP INSTALLING Pyro!!!

Hundreds, nay thousands, of folk have done the pyro with the grease/shopvac/magnet method and didn't suffer a turbo meltdown.

Just get everything with the magnet, then when you're sure there aren't any chunks left, fish around with the magnet one more time, just to be sure.

Then, should I let it idle a bit???

Yes. That's what I did. It's not an original idea- I was worried about shavings at first, but many on this forum eased my mind. When first started, at idle, the turbo isn't even turning yet. The puffs of exhaust can just blow any filings right through. I even started the engine once briefly with the new hole open (another avenue for something to get out).

Re:Need HELP INSTALLING Pyro!!!

Its probably a piece of mind thing. I spent a little more time (maybe 1 extra hour) and about $5.00 for a new exhaust gasket. But I KNEW I wouldnt have a problem. Im not saying Im right, it just works for me.

Re:Need HELP INSTALLING Pyro!!!

Well, I finally got it installed last nite. Im having trouble keeping the a-pillar from falling off... using duck tape now, but gonna put ina sheet metal screw when I get the chance.... but atleast I can keep an eye on the EGTs!!!

I went the unconventual way and didnt unbolt anything. I spend a good hour or so with the magnet and then let it idle for 15-20 mins before driving it.

Im running between 650-850* normal driving and I peak at 1150* at WOT. Does that sound bout right with the stock plate slide all the way forward???

BTW I havent done the tranny guage yet, but I did do the boost and it peaks at almost 21 psi.

Thanks,

Sam

Yes. My guess is if you were to stay "in it" long enough, or pull a heavy load or grade, you'd see it go higher. Just don't stay at 1350* for more than a few seconds. Now you can also watch the ex. temp. for cool-down purposes.

Yeah, I noticed that as soon as I take the ol right foot out, the temps drop a good 2-300* same as when the turbo kicks in.
