need for billet shafts?

Am getting ready to order a transmission rebuild and don't understand when the shafts in the transmission need to be replaced with billet shafts. My truck runs up to 450 rwhp and pulls in 2 to 3 truck pulls a year. It's a daily driver and pulls a trailor about 5000 miles per year. Also want to add an exhaust brake. Please educate me. Two Gun

If you have the extra money right now I think you should consider putting the billet shafts in. Exspecially(Sp?) if you plan on doing truck pulls. It will be much easier to replace them while the tranny is out and in pieces than if you would brake them a couple months down the road in a truck pull.(IMO)

The only big need is when big power is produced with a tcc controller. If the trans locks up at 30mph and shifts to 4th still locked up it puts to big of a load at once on the shaft especially if your on the throttle . Sonnax is the only company i know right now that makes a one piece.

Both PDR and DTT told me billet shafts are a must for boost launches.

My 2 cents...

I made a one piece billet over a year ago and last spring sent out a couple to test in trucks. But I had/have a real reason for making a one piece input shaft/piston retainer.

My two piece shaft will hold 1750 ft pounds of torq. I feel this is the most important thing to shop for when buying a billet shaft, how much torque will it hold? Ask what torq a billet shaft will hold before you buy it. The word billet is over used and by no way means one company's parts are equal to another.

Like I said above I made a few one piece input shafts but in reality they really are no stronger than the two piece shafts. So what if you have plans of exceeding 1750 foot pouds of torq? I'd say lets try another buzz word instead of billet. FORGED, and closed forged at that. I originally designed and tested a one piece input shaft to increase the area of the first gear piston 20 percent. Soon two different one piece forged shafts will available, one that uses the oem first gear piston and one that uses the new larger first gear piston. Both will hold over 2200' pds of torq. IE makes the stongest shafts available for the Dodge. As stated above, next month there will be two more shafts added to the list.
