changing to billet shafts
changing to billet shafts
Last night I was doing a little
holeshot and it seems that I snapped a shaft in the trans. I'm planning on changing out all the shafts and putting in a suncoast xtreme rebuild kit. I havent been into a 48re except for the tc and vb. I was just looking for some advice when I take this thing apart if there is anything special I need to know or if I need any special tools. I have rebuilt trannys before, I'm just not sure if I need to get any spring compressors or anything.

You proably snap your input shaft as you have a aftermarket TC and VB .
Bill over at DTT recommend at time of build for mine to put billet in or I would snap off stock one with new upgrades. She's tightly wound now.
Your tranny is no more then a over sized old style 727 Toc. Flight very simple tranny.
Pull pump, lossen front band, pull front and direct clutch out and change input.
Rear output is in overdrive housing which just pulls off back of tranny I myself have never gone trough it.
Give DTT a call great people to work with they sell Billet input and output shafts.

Good luck!

You will need some spring compressors, and some measurement tools to set up the OD unit. DO NOT take the OD apart until you read a manual-there is a very stong spring compressed with 700-800 lbs of pressure on it. If you pull the wrong c-clip you have a "wild spring" flying around!!!
