Need advice on what to do

I have a completely stock 2001 3500 with an auto transmission. I would like to start making some more power out of this thing and would like to hear what you guys would recommend? I did a search for if anyone else had asked this question and I read a post on how to lock down the waste gate on the truck to over ride the boost level. Is this a bad idea with a stock combo and no tweaks? Besides that please let me know what tweaks I should do. Cost is always a factor so please keep that in mind.

First off, I would highly recomend getting gauges. You cant expect to drive your truck to its full potential and not know what is really going on under the hood, especially if you want to add more power. Now since you have an auto, the only thing I really know about them is they dont take lightly to much in the way of anything but mild add ons. So maybe some guys with autos can tell you more or do searches on what the autos can take as for more power. Then you have to figure what do you want to do with your truck. Drive around empty, pull heavy loads often, race, ect. Some things are for all out power, some are for just that little extra, and some are to keep your engine safe. There are so many ways to go but the most common for starters is maybe an Edge EZ, some small to medium gauges, better exhaust (or just straight piped stock), and better air filter. The last two are to keep EGT's (exhaust gas temperatures) down when you add more power. Check the links section for stores that sell the stuff to get prices and read as much as you can to gain info on whats the right way to go. Oh yea, and to answer your question, I wouldnt disable the wastegate untill you get a box or boost fooler to over ride the ECM because you will probably get an overboost code. Hope this helped.
