Need advice on which guages.

96 Dodge 3500 dually turbo diesel

I like the z series autometer. But im not sure which to get.
Mechanical boost 0-60 psi boost only
Or 0-30 boost and 0-30 vac
As far as fuel pressure do I get a 0-15 psi or 0-100 psi ?

Appreciate your replies.

Get the 60 lb boost
For fuel pressure 15 psi is lower than you will ever see and a 100 psi gauge will barely move.
60 psi is what you need

Fuel pressure is probably the last one I'd get. Definately get a 60psi boost (I started with a 35 and that's now in the basement ) and get a pyrometer to keep an eye on EGTs. Next popular one for trucks with automatics is tranny temp gauge. 12v's don't have the same lift pump problems that 24v's have.

I got the Z-series in mine and really like them. 0-60 boost, pyro, and 0-30 fuel pressure. Here's a pic of them.

imcumin,

Pyro, boost 0-60 and fuel 0-30, if you have an auto trans get that instead of the fuel pressure or add it as well in a steering column mount by itself. Give us a clal if you want we have all the Auto Meter, DiPricol and Isspro guages as well as the mounts, paints, wiring harnesses etc to make the install as easy as possible for you.

I got a set of White Faced DiPricol's (Boost 0-35, Fuel 0-30, Pyro) from your site... At night it looks just like the stock guages...

Full kit ran me $309.00 lot cheaper that Autometers... Pyro & Fuel Pressure guages are high priced in Autometers... But very good quality!

Don't listen to these 24 valve guys, on a 12 valve a 30 psi fp gauge will be pegged.
60 psi is best since in the normal operating range the needle will point straight up.

Ok so on a 12V if you loose fuel pressure what happens? It doesn't kill the injection pump like it will on a 24V although it may run weak. Most won't even loose prime. I find it hard enough to keep my eyes on the road when the skinny peddle is on the floor let alone look at EGT, boost, tranny temp, fuel pressure, speed, tach....

The first time I try to look at all of the needles long enough to actually read them, I'll be greasy side up in a heatbeat.

Just my $0.02

You didn't mention what transmission you have.

If automatic, I'd skip the fuel pressure and get a tranny temp guage.

Guys,

No need to get hostile. I recently found out that this truck (my inlaws) is actually a 98 - 24 valve turbo a/t cummins dually and not a 12v.
Its a long story.

I guess my last post was a little strong - I really didn't mean it that way.

Anyway, for a 24V I'd get a fuel pressure gauge first (even on a stock truck). Next an EGT, boost, tranny temp (especially if you tow).
