Question More Power ????

I am new to these diesels.(had mine about 3 weeks) Have been driving dodge gas since 1972 but have found myself putting an ungodly amount of light towing miles on the past couple years and altho the gassers were doing fine (working hard thru the mountains) the cost of gas getting 6.5- 7 mpg was getting out of hand. i bought a 2001 last march with 22000 miles on it and traded it on this diesel a few weeks ago with 89000 on it.
my question is, it seems most everyone in this forum is adding gadgets to boost power. Is this because they need it to do everyday work or just to make big boy toys more fun?

Herb,
Most of us make someting great (a Cummins) a little better! Add a box (Edge EZ, TST Powermax, VanAaken, etc) for 60-125 more ponies. Add some injectors, another 40-100 horsepower. Get a BHAF (Big Honkin Air Filter), and some hi-flow banjo bolts for the fuel system, set back and

but as stock, they do a decent job? i am leaving for a trip from michigan to southern texas and california this week. will be visiting big bear lake witch is about 8000 ft elevation. have been there at least once for the last three years and have been slowed down to 35-40 mph climbing it with my gassers. this will give me a good idea of what these puppies are all about.

Even stock, I dont think you will be disappointed. You may not climb the hills as fast as you would with mild modifications but I'm sure you will outpull your gas trucks and still maintain better fuel mileage.

Welcome to the world of diesel! I have converted more than one person just letting them drive my truck bone stock. Up the mountains you should be rather impressed. And if you get worried about getting down them, an exhaust brake is most helpful as well.

Read this forum about how to safely and reliably add to the performance and watch out - this BOMB bug is dangerous!

Herb, how much weight are you pulling? You should be able to see the night vs. day difference from the gassers while stock, but there is so much potential there.

More power

Herb, My wife took her '97 (all stock) w/ 1 horse fom Canon City, CO to Durango over Wolf Creek Pass (elv 10,850) last summer. She had to slow down on the curves... uphill and got over 18 MPG for the trip. You are so gonna love that truck.

Edge Drag Comp, don't hook up pump wire yet. Buy it once, do it right. In cab control allows you to turn box on or off whereas EZ doesn't. Allows you to upgrade gradually.
