mods for a 96 CTD?

Ok, so my buddy just bought a 96 and wants some power. He ordered the Turbo Master, gauges, and exhaust. From what I've read, he needs to advance the timing? Please explain this in the most lamen way you can and what would he ask for when calling a shop to have it done? How would he find a shop that would do it and what should it cost? He is also going to get a Scotty II. What else can he do for realatively cheap for even more power? He's got the "bomb bug" bad!
Oh, its a 5 spd too so a HP clutch will be in order soon as well, any recommendations on that?
Thanks a bunch!

First thing that comes to mind is a fuel plate. Something like a TST plate. The timing could very possibly need to be bumped up some. Also check the exhaust and do something to eliminate ALL restrictions. If you want to get good advice call PIERS and he can set you up with some bigger injectors and turbo to match.

If his is the 215hp pump, then the #11 is a good starter for not worrying about a clutch. I had a #11, 300 injectors & the #11 slid 3/4 forward, the stock clutch held.

Before messing with the timing you might want to read this: http://www.dieselinjection.net/frames.html This shop specializes in Cummins high power engines and they say to retard the timing when adding lots of power.
