Which Mod?

Hello all, I have an 01 4x4 3500, 36000 miles, stock dodge (3.55's). Lets say I have no more than a thousand dollars to spend. Which engine modification should I start with to get more power for towing, I have a 2500 lb slide in camper and tow @ 2000 lbs of atv's and stuff. I do not want to void any engine warranties. I am not a major gear head so I prefer easily installed equipment. So what should I start with. Lets take for granted I am going to install the bare minimum of a pyrometer. Where to from here?
Thanks
Jim in Co.

Alot depends on you plans in the future if you plan on just a simple towing upgrade an edge EZ and 275 injectors with a full compliment of boost/pyro/fp gagues.

Gauges, EZ, air filter. Would be a good start and stay with in your budget and the easy install.

Glenn

Re:Which Mod?

I was in the same boat. I went ahead and got the comp and ran with the wire unhooked. It was a huge difference so much that I tapped the wire after a week. That is when I found out what they mean by the dark side. Get the comp.

Re:Which Mod?

I believe the advice the others gave you for how to increase power is on target, BUT, I think they missed one line in your original post: You said, "I do not want to void any engine warranties."

You can't have it both ways, except by commiting fraud. The warranty is a contract between the manufacturer (Dodge), and the customer (you), and one of the conditions of that contract is that you don't step up the power by performing unapproved, power-enhancing modifications. Sometimes you can "fool" the dealer, but that's not the same thing as saying you can legally vary from your end of the contract while expecting Dodge to hold up their end. Some dealers may allow minor enhancements, like maybe installing 275 RV injectors, but that is something you need to discuss openly with your dealer to see where he stands. Dodge's official position would be "no". (There may be some minor exceptions - certain models can get a dealer "reflash" of the computer for a little power gain, but the Dodge-approved reflashes are overpriced and don't hop up the power nearly as much as the aftermarket mods.)

If you have a manual, get an exhaust brake instead - installed by your dealer, it won't void your warranty.

Otherwise, decide which you want more - the warranty or the additional power. Some folks compromise - pick a mileage you feel comfortable with like 20k or 50k, then do the mods and don't worry about warranty past that date.

Re:Which Mod?

If you have a stick I think dodge makes the torquis maximus ecm I dont think it will void your warranty. Course it is twice as expensive as comparable boxes and doesn't give you as much. At least I think I saw that box in dodge add and if I recall it was about 900.00

Re:Which Mod?

Thanks for all the advice. I think I am going to go with a higher air flow air filter, edge ez and some gages on a pillar for now. I think next I will probably lose the resonator and get a 4 inch exhaust. Thanks again.
Jim in Co
