Mechanical injection pump for 2001

Is there such thing or a way to make or install a mechanical injection pump on a vp44 motor, i do believe mine took a crap without notice, going to reset the apps but im not keeping my fingers crossed. Would love to get rid of the worst part of the truck and put something more reliable on it.

bs the cost will depemd on weather you can do it yourself it will cost about 3-4,000.00 for a shop to do it not counting the cost of the inj pump. or you can do it your self for 1/2 of that or less.

'BNold'...One of our members (N.Tx DTR Club) just did a p-pump on his 01.5. He bgt a used 12v engine, sold lots of the parts and rebuilt the ones he needed. Some good pics HERE
Major job, IMO, with some special tools required... like a 12v timing kit,

Just buy an complete 12v with an injection pump. I just bought a 98 with 215 pump, pretty cheap. Outside of the injectors lines, everything bolt in. Auto trucks need the TPS and tach sensor for the tranny to shift. The 98 and 99, it easier. You also need the 12v gearbox and injection pump support. The fuel shutoff valve as well. Its not too much money if you know what you have to do. A aftermarket cam is nice as you can use the 12v lift pump as well. You could also rig up a way to increase you're fuel pressure.

If you are going p7100 get a 97 or newer if possible from what I understand 96 and down pumps are obsolete and hard to get parts for plus they make less hp. However, I realize I am fixing to get flamed, but you could put a ve pump on. Its a bullet proof pump just doesn't make as much hp. Hopefully one of the hard core first gen guys will back me up. If money is no object the a ppumped 24v is awesome.

By all rights the VE pump should work, just as well. Just depends on what parts you have laying around or want to run under the hood. VP's work good to, there are still failure issues, but they happen on any pump VE, p7100, VP or CP pump. Newer auto trucks are harder to start changing out the VP. Its do able, its that darn electronic stuff. You could just find a RH valve body and the kick down linkage and be done without using the computer. I've throw the idea around myself, just haven't tried it yet.

It depends on what you have available. When I did my conversion, I had no place to put a spare engine, so buying the kit and finding a pump by itself was the way I had to go. I spent close to $4k on parts, which includes the 45 psi 150 series FASS. I was able to recoup roughly $1k between my old FASS and a decent VP, still have several parts still kicking around.

96 and older pumps aren't obsolete. 96 uses the same pumps (180/215) as the 97 and 98 engines. The small pumps, while not as desirable will work just as well. And since there is less of a demand for them, can be had cheaper. Brad Ponci is doing quite well on a 160 pump that has never been off the truck. There's potential in them all.
