Problem is when it goes from hot air to superheated air!

Could not get the HX-35 map link to open...but it's available here...Give them a call.

Happens right after the engine ingests the turbo blades.

Saw and heard it happen at a dyno event a couple years ago.

This was a HX-40 though, I think.

Are you refering to Dee Rawson @ The Weekend on the Edge?? That was a HX-50, the old style that piers use to make.

I have ran 45 psi out of my hy and never had a problem except heat. They are just too small to blow up. I have never seen one lose a wheel.

Now the HX40/35 hybrids I have seen explode!!! I blew the turbine wheel on one and shot is out the tail pipe. My buddy blew the compressor up and the motor ate it. NOT GOOD!!!

So, has anyone seen a HY35 blow up???

Thats part of my question....exactly what is super heated air? I understand the theory, that the heat takes away any powe that the boost gives but exactly how did this get derived? On a dyno? (Ie no air over the intercooler) Measured temps? Mass air flow meter?

At some point the turbo will no build more boost.....ie, the generalizaton the on compound twins the little turbo is along for the ride. But I seem to think that outside temp , intercooler, water /alky, etc etc all have factors in the point where it has no more returns.

I'm no turbo tech but I can tell you that the superheated air charge is created by an overspeeding compressor that is causing a shearing effect of the air with in it......the exhaust temp is further increased by the excessive drive pressures required to overspeed the turbo.......I'm sure many other factors mentioned contribute to just how hot your intake charge will be, but IMO, an overspeeding would be by far the most critical factor in excessive intake charge temps.....maybe some experts will chime in on the specifics.

I was not as concerned for the HY blowing up as I was that Danny could be melting a piston from high exhaust temps that the WAY overspeeding HY would cause.

As for the psi limit of the 12cm HX35, has anyone seen one make more power past 35 psi as it did at 35 psi?.....As one that has pushed and found the limits of an HX35 first hand, I can tell you that the hp falls off noticably at 37-38 psi with a 12cm housing and gating it for 35 psi does not appear to lower the hp of the motor.

Just my .02 from my experience with the HX35

turbo maps

the holset website does provide some maps, but I think the best data is from the members that have run them with gauges in every conceivable location:
IAT readings, EGT readings, Boost readings, Drive pressure readings, etc.
There are a lot of turbos out there, including hybrids that won't have a 'map' available, but someone who can contribute their findings and post them for all is critical for me!

Yup, that's the one.

Wasn't sure what he was running at the time.

Any luck with the turbo map? Would love to know what it says.
