Maximum boost pressure??

Just wondering if someone could advise me here? I am seeing turbo boost pressures of 45lb at full throttle! I just installed new "stage 5 injectors" and am running a comp box, afe, wastegate blocked with turnbuckle on stock turbo, stock exhaust. Is this too much pressure?? I was only seeing aroung 35 till I put in the new injectors. How much can the stock turbo/engine stand? My truck is a 2001 automatic. Thanks...Danny

........35 psi is the max efficient boost from a HX35 and you have the smaller HY35.......With the fuel you are running you are WAY ot of the acceptable operating range of your HY.......it is time you start looking into some larger aftermarket turbos ASAP!!!
Connectting your boost elbow back up is not going to dump enough boost to help you at your fueling level as the HY wastegate only exhausts 3 out of the 6 cylinders.........NEW TURBO TIME!!!!

Sheesh, where are my manners?......Welcome to DTR!! .........One other thing I forgot to add: Stock exhaust is a big no no when running your level of fuel......you should be stepping up to a complete 4" system to drop some egt - at least 200 degrees....you do have an egt gauge right?......probe installed pre turbo I hope?.......I think I would be too scared to see that gauge on your truck!

You might also experience a muffler rattle... The chunks of parts as they pass through the engine!!!

Dang! That is a lot of boost pressure! 45 PSI!!!

That's what the burp signified.

Happens right after the engine ingests the turbo blades.

Saw and heard it happen at a dyno event a couple years ago.

This was a HX-40 though, I think.

Whoa, 45PSI is nuts. I'm surprised it still works. I just spoke with Scott @ TST today about turbos. CTD Nut is on the money. Anymore than 35PSI from the HX35 and you are making warm/hot boost.

That combo will shurly cost you more than you want to pay
All that fuel and no extra air = Did you happen to notice your pyro reading at 45psi?
I'm no turbo expert but would think your going to need atleast a full B1?
Do yourself a favor and turn off the comp untill you upgrade the turbo
Remind me not to by a turbo from you

I was scared when I saw the boost that high, but I think you guys have scared me more!! I have turned off the comp box till I can figure (afford) a solution, didn't think the injectors (actually I just changed the injector nozzles) would make that much difference. I was sure I needed trans. upgrades, that was going to be first on my list, then exhaust and turbo later. Looks like I need to find some quick cash!! So in your guys opinion, 35lb boost is the most I should ever let it go?

As far as ex. temps. go, I have post turbo guage, but never really noticed. I have only run it for short bursts, racing and smoking a buddy of mine's Z71 gasser through 3/4 mile or so, so I don't think it had time to get really high. I hardly ever pull heavy. I just mostly like the redlight racing.

I need some suggestions as far as tranny upgrades (someone told me a good torque converter and shift kit would suffice.....what do you think??) and turbo upgrades (I'm pretty dumb here, what would you suggest with my setup) if anyone can help me, I know many of you can. I have been reading your forum for about 2 years, have logged a few post earlier, but had to change my login and start over for posting. You guys are part of the reason I am in this mess!! Talking about all that horsepower and torque, and smoking those chevys and fords.....nothing like it!!!

Thanks for the replies....Danny

We were not trying to scare you, Danny.... .......but you are running a dangerous combo!!.......35 psi is a tad too much for the little 9cm HY35 that you have.......35 psi is the efficient limit of the larger 12cm HX35.......please get your probe mounted pre turbo......it will read 200-400 degrees lower after the turbo......it is far too inaccurate post turbo - especially with your combo.......I would suggest you get 4" exhaust now.....you will probably have to buy a new down pipe for the turbo you need anyway.

Probably nothing short of a full ATS or DTT tranny would be in order for you.......exspensive but money well spent.

Get that pyro hooked up properly post-haste!!!......and post your temps.....sustained temps over 1350 are asking for major engine damage.....short bursts over that are fine but if I were to guess, your short bursts are probably WAY over that - be careful!!

Danny

I hit 45 psi once, before upgrading turbo and never had the nerve to try it again after hearing it!
Might try a spring on your turnbuckle to allow some play in the wastegate. Never tried this myself but others seem to like them. Might control it to 35+/-. I can still remember "feeling" power stop pulling at about 38 psi on mine. 35 psi is probably a good # to use as a limit.

Not much fun controlling throttle by the boost gauge reading but you can do that till you get around to upgrading.

Some have had ok results just doing a Convertor...I wouldn't without at least a valve body also. even than you're playing with potential pressure problems, IMO. See hear for good info...http://www.dieseltrans.com/ . Go into Dodge forum for article on "Why not ...just a VB & TC".
Good Luck
RJ

Other then the opinion that 35 is the limit for a hx35, are there any numbers to support that? Everyone says after that its hot air.....news flash, its always hot, hence the big intercooler on the front. I m not argueing here....I tend to think 30 -35 is the out side limit also, but I have never seen a comressor map or seen any temps posted.
