Maximum Boost Levels

what is the maximum boost that a stock motor can handle? right now i'm getting 37-39 pounds of boost, and someone was telling me that the stock motor will fail.

At those boost levels on a stock turbo will send the drive pressure way up which can be hard on the headgasket. Try to keep under 35 lbs on that hx35.

37-39 seems like the norm for most lightly bombed trucks. After 38 pounds I think an HX-35 loses efficiency and I've always read that a stock head gasket is maxed out at 50 pounds. I've been running high 30's for the last 60 thousand miles with no problems. Eric

Ran stock hx-35 up to 50psi lots of times, but it does loose efficiency around 38/40psi. HG did not blow tell the hht 62/14 and water methanol came in to play.

First of All they make a boost fitting that taps in the intake manifold on a 12v that should fix your boost Tap Problems! Thats the stand. for the industry!
Secondly, A Stock 2000 24v with just a banks kit hitting 37? Ill just say my truck wouldnt have thought of much over 26lbs with that setup, are you sure your gauge is right? maybe a set of sticks?

On your intake manifold you'll have a port to tap in for boost. I think it's an allen head or something. It'll be towards the front of the motor on the 12v I think.

Yeah, it's a 1/8" bolt I believe. On the driver's side of the engine, inbetween the injection pump and the engine. You should see a bolt sticking out. Take that out and put your boost gauge plumbing in.

Back when I had the HX and the drive pressure gauge hooked up at 35 psi of boost the 60 psi drive pressure gauge was pegged hard.

I'm peaking just shy of 50psi with the 62/14. No HG problems in 30K.

I hit around 50 psi as well. 52 is max. When I had the hx-35 on it I would usually hit 40-45 psi and I have no HG problems. Just make sure the engine is GOOD and warm before you romp on it.

Wow, I get 22-23lbs of max boost out of my stock 12v. Why are you getting only a pound or two more than me with that juice on?
