Question MAP sensor retrofit, could it work?

I have a 97 12 valve. Following alot of good advise on this board the first thing I did after the KDP was order up some gauges. I wanted to try something different so I ordered a quadzilla commander. Lots of cool features, big display ect.

For kicks I decided to take a look at the installation instructions on the website before the unit showed up (but after I ordered it) just to see what kind of job I had ahead of me. I come to find out I will not be able to use the boost monitoring parameter with out a MAP sensor.

I don't especially want to send the unit back once it comes because it looks real nice. So I'm left wondering if I can retrofit a MAP sensor to my 12v just so that I can monitor boost with the commander.

By the time I'm finished building my truck it will be boosting in the range of a 5BAR MAP sensor. There are aftermarket universal MAP sensors out there but they are all used in conjuction with an engine management system that allows for calibration (graident and intercept, based on min and max pressure and voltage from what I can gather) once the new sensor is installed. Unless there is a universal MAP sensor out there that matches specs with a stock sensor in one of the trucks the commander will work with, I can't use one.

So I got to thinking, since the commander allows you to select what vehicle you are putting the unit in for "proper coolant and boost monitoring" I shoud be able to choose the MAP sensor with largest operating range out of the applications the comander is made for. That is if I can adapt it to the 12 valve in my truck. The commander works with all the diesel trucks from the big 3 after 98 or 99.

So can anyone tell me if they think this plan of mine could work? Is it worth the time/cost? What about a good MAP sensor to reseach? Also, where the heck am I going to get +5 volts for the MAP?

Sorry the post is so long. Any help would be great, thanks.

Why not get a stock map sensor and just tap it into the intake horn? Or if there is a place in the 12v manifold that you can put a boost line, get a reducer from said map sensor to the port in the manifold.

One other thing, the pressure sensors I got from Autometer (Boost and FP) have a suspicously similar looking connection as the stock map sensor. Or just call the Mfg. and see if they have a unit that will work with your commander.

Does anyone know how much boost a stock ISB MAP sensor will monitor?

The ram index lists a max boost of 18.2 PSI for the ISB. I would think the signal wire would see 5 volts shortly after. Anyone taken voltage at higher boost numbers?

Thanks
