Lift pump Replacement

I have a 01 Dodge Diesel and i was reading all about all the problems that you are all having with the lift pumps. My truck has 62000 miles on it and i was wonding if it would be better to put stock back on it like warrenty, or to get an aftermarket replacement like holley, if it should ever go bad. What does FASS mean i am kinda new at this Dodge Diesel stuff. And Where, what and how much would it cost for the FASS system or where can you get it and what does it replace.Any help would be appriciated.

Welcome to the Board! I would recommend using the search function regarding the FASS, too much info to reply on. The short of it, it's a aftermarket electric fuel pump that replaces the stock fuel system. They offer two different levels of pumps one with a filter one without.

Fill in your truck info in your profile, so we can see all the info about your truck to help you better.

First thing you should look into is gauges, top three being fuel pressure, EGT, and Boost. If you have a automatic trans you could get a trans temp gauge as well.

Good Luck.

i REPLACED THE ORIGINAL LIFT PUMP AT 50000 MILES AS IDLE WAS ONLY 8 PSI. THIS ONE LASTED 6000 MILES AND STARTED FLUCTUATING PRESSURE FROM 15 TO 0 EVERY 3 SECONDS. lAST WEEK i PUT IN A 4601hp FROM SUMMIT RACING WITH A PRE FILTER OFF A CAT ENGINE AND REMOVED THE SCREEN FROM THE SLEEVE IN THE TANK. sEEMS TO BE WORKING ok WITH 12 IDLE AND 8 WOT. TIME WILL TELL!!! i BENCH TESTED THE FAILED PUMP AND FOUND IT TO BE ELECTRICAL FAILURE. THESE LITTLE GREMLINS MUST HAVE AN INTERNAL OVERLOAD THAT GOES BAD. IT WORKED FINE ON OPEN DISCHARGE BUT WHEN THROTTLED TO 15 PSI IT CUT OFF AND ON. HOPE THIS HELPS!!

Is there a pump also in tank or is there just one transfer pump. the one beside the fuel filter. Also if i wanted to put guages in like pyro and the boost, i know where they go and what do do with them but how do you put a fuel guage. do you have to tap in the fuel liine yourself or do they make a kit thats easier to hook up. Where is the best placce to hook up your fuel guage, between the filter and the injection pump or between the lift and the filter. Would it be better to go with the stock lift pump since i have warrenty still or just to go with an aftermarket one to get away from the stock one all together.

There is no pump in the tank, just the lift pump on the engine near the fuel filter. As far as which pump you want to go with it is up to you. If you don't mind having to have it replaced again you could go with a stock, but if you want better luck go with an aftermarket one. These are not a sure fix, but the have been very promising so far. They haven't been out long enough to know if it is a sure fix.

There are a couple of ways to hook up a fuel pressure gauge. One is to get a tapped banjo bolt and put it on the top of the fuel filter canister or take out one of the bolt on the injection pump. You could also use one of the shrader valves on the injection pump. There are many venders now that are selling complete kits for the gauges. It depends on the vender as to which system is used, but if you want a particular one I am sure the vender could hook you up.
