K&N Drop in Claening Intervals

For those of you using K&N, what do you find is the optimal mieleage for cleaning? I have read 50-100k. Cleaning too often causes problems(oil down stream).
Your thoughts?

A dirty filter filters better as long as it doesn't become so dirty as to become restrictive.
I trust my filter minder, which has never dropped with a K&N and service every 100k. No peaking inside the airbox inbetween, it is counterproductive and likely to cause a bad seal.
At every oil change I remove the intake tube from the turbo to allow easier access to the oil filter. White rag wipe inside the tube has aways come up clean. Oil analysis has always had low silicon numbers which indicates the filter is doing it's job contrary to what many K&N haters imply. Most problems stem from over servicing, over oiling or not following the directions.
I bought my K&N from Cummins Northwest which recommended them at the time.
Seems to me that K&N would be out of business if their products truly ruined engines.

I like my K&N I use them on everything, the biggest from I hear is improper use. I check mine everynow and then but I don;t clean it that much. I usaully go by my butt dyno. or if it looks really nasty with dirt build up.

I haven't had to clean mine in 30k miles yet - it looks a little dirty, but not bad at all. I check the tube to the turbo and it's clean...

Are you running the large K&N conical (part# E-0776) drop-in? Have you had an oil analysis done?

if you do an oil analysis you can also see the damage being done by the K&N

well from what iv seen, read and heard k&n's are great for serten conditions, and horible for others, but i fined that its true of any oiled filter, if your in a relitivaly dusty area then steer clear of any oiled filter, if not then put in what you want it doesnt make that big of difference

My K&N has about 160,000 on it, maybe less or more. I clean it every 10,000 miles when I change the fuel filter. My filter minder has never moved either with the K&N installed.

If you are in real dusty conditions you can put on a wrap (for conical filters). Uni makes one so does K&N. I have a nylon type of wrap but I am thinking of putting on the Uni filter wrap.
