Just wanted to say Hi, I am New here.....

Hi, I am new here, been lurking around for a while but still hiding in a hole.
I just ordered my first Diesel truck and I ordered it on May 7th and it was shipped out on the 28th or 29th.
I have been tracking mine since D status. Right now it is on a Union Pacific Rail car that I am tracking as it makes it's way to Az.
I hope to gain a lot of info here since it is my first Diesel.
What is the first order of maintaining a Diesel correctly?
I should look into ______?
From What I have been reading the Air Box should be the first to be changed or can I just upgrade the element?
I will have the silencer out the first day I have the truck, and yes I know that it does nothing but improve the Turo whirl, correct.

By the way my order is a 03 Quad SLT HO 48RE SB ADA,AHC,AJB,GPG,XEA, White with Slate Leather ;D
Welcome nicksort,
Along with the Airbox, I'd get some Gauges to monitor what your CTD is doing. There are several brands to choose from, depending on your needs.
Big dawg

Welcome Nicksort
This is a great site and a bunch diesel gurus here, and you can learn so much from them it's overwhelming. Don't be afraid to ask questions. That's how we all keep learning. I gotta say it gauges, gauges, gauges
Check out the vendors that sponsor the site, some very good ones, and by patronizing them, they support the site. ;D
offmysoapboxramblinonnowwayne :

Welcome noobie; 1st bomb = guages, maintenance suggestions- read the owner's manual, first thing to look into - make sure the dealer checks the differentials for proper fluid type and amount.

Thank you all -

Why the Gauges on a stock truck, am I unaware of a problem?

Yes I will read the threads mentioned, thanks.

I had told the dealer yesterday to make sure to check the differential for proper fluid type and amount and he thought I was NUTS.... All he could say was "This is a new truck".
I told him I still wanted him to check it, either he does it or we do it together when I pick it up.

Nicksort,

I had that same conversation about checking the diff case fluid levels and the dealer assured me that it was part of the xxx many step predelivery program they have. I took his word for it but when I finally got around to checking them myself at home I found both were at the absolute bottom of spec.

Good luck with the new truck.

I agree with everyone else. #1 priority is gauges. You have to know and get used to what you truck is doing mechanicaly by watching those gauges. Then when and if you have any problems or decide to do any mods, you will know exactly what to expect and what to look for.
Its like your blood pressure, heart beat, temperature, ect. You know what they are supposed to be at and thats how you tell if there is a problem with your body. Well the same applies to your truck. You will notice that when you ask a question most guys will ask you back, what do your gauges say.
And Welcome.
